How to "hook up"

i have a 2014 GT with track pack, upgraded trailing arms, upper control arms with BMR and upgraded panhard bar, kooks 1 3/4 LT, O/R H mid and borla stingers on back with a race tune and 93 pump gas. stock pirelli tires.

i live in western PA at an elevation of 2400 ft.

Best time i have gotten so far is 13.6 at 108 mph on a 1/4 mile (on a mostly level road, using the track app)

motor trend was able to do a 12.7 in a stock GT with track pack so im definitely not doing it right. i seem to have a lot of wheel spin, even into 3rd gear. im trying to shift just before redline though sometimes it tacks out before i get it into the next gear. if i try to dump any amount of RPM into 1st gear i just spin, and keep spinning into 3rd. So does anyone have any advice for how to play the clutch/ throttle at launch??? TY much!!

I'm interested to hear some feedback as well. 13.6 is way too high for what you have it seems.

^What I was thinking. What did motor trend use, tires-wise?

Stock Pirellis suck. But I did do a best 0-60 best 4.4s and quarter 12.9s with CAI, 93 tune, and catback. On stock tires.

I think I launched at 2600 and feathered the clothe until it jumped then from half throttle I increased gas until it hooked up and went

thanks guys, i think i get to antsy and let go of the clutch to quickly and push the throttle to floor to fast. i was using the countdown option on the track app, and my reaction times are never right on, not sure if starts to count time as soon as the green light comes or once i start moving

Also what tires do you recomend? i was looking at the Hankook Ventus s1 evo k110, it has a tread ratting of 280 which is better than the Nitto INVO's but slightly worse than the Mickey Thompsons, anyone have any experiance with these tires? the interweb gives them a good rating, and they are only about $200 a tire.

Yeah if you dump the clutch too quickly you will either bog the car if your revs aren't high enough and will burn out if its too high. If you launch too low even if the car is stock you're not in the powerband and will have a bad start. Powerband starts to hits at like 3500 and up.

The way I let the clutch off is I let the clutch off like 1/3-1/2 by simply snapping my foot up but keeping the heel planted and launch it at 2600. As soon as I start feeling the car move I start adding more gas and begin to dump the clutch. After the car squats and I feel some motion I regulate the right foot until it grips and goes then floor it.

Some light peeling out is ok.

Sounds like a billions years and stuff between start to finish but it lasts only like half a sec or so between clutch being disengaged and fully engaged.

Easiest mod for straight line performance considering that your suspension is stock would be tires. I currently got ****to 555 285/30/20 and they are crap.

Next I'm trying out the Mickey Thompson Street Comp 305/35/20.

Also the timer starts as soon as it turns green. I would also recommend using the tree instead of the start at will timer.

When you have too much time you over think things and mess it up. Train yourself to use reflexes.

At the track you're going to need a full slick to hook up since you have a manual. But slicks and track pack don't mix well so you're in a tough spot.

Get the MT Street Comps, I've been to the track once and on stock suspension was able to pretty much floor it once I hooked in first with no tire spin. 13.1 was best I could do that day, well prepped track.

How to "hook up"

Yeah, at the track... I've run stock suspension, 19" pneros, CAI, and 93 tune, 12.72@114.8. Launching bout 25-2800rpm, Riding clutch out slowly till it's rolling out n pedal to the medal after that, shifting at 7100. Just bought some et streets on some 15" drag stars, upgraded rear suspension, lwr ctrl arms, upp ctrl arm, alum DS, waiting for the rain to go away, to go test, I figure 12.0s or poss 11.9s

I tried the track app on my car 1 time. It was pretty neat but I just didn't feel all that safe. I never could finish the race before "Pulling out" < --- No Pun intended

Take your car to the race track where it's being timed on a fixed surface. You will also get better traction as your on a sticky surface. I'm sure you could easily match what Road and Track or Motor Trend did.

You're right on this. With no power mods, 235 pneros. Did a 1.96 60ft. 12.78 @111 in 1/4. I was surprised I didn't spin much. Started the track app at the same time. The track app was 0.2 sec more and 1mph slower on both runs.
On the street, my tires would just spin and fishtail to the point I just let off the gas.

Honest question. What about the slicks and track pack don't mix?

The Torsen differential isn't made for clutch dumps on a sticky tire. It's made for the road course. They will break.

That's an awesome time bone stock. You really drove the crap outta the thing. Best I could muster was a 13.1 with a crap 2.0 60ft. Only 4 runs. I'll get 12's next week at LVD....hopefully lol
