Supercharged 3.7 V6 vs. 5.0 T

2013-2014 Mustangs we are talking here. I'm sure this has been talked about before but I'm about to buy a Mustang which has been the car I've wanted ever since I could say "Mustang". I definitely want to mod immediately if I get the V6. I'm probably going to go the supercharger route because I'm not going to be racing, but for some reason I want a car that just kicks my ***!

So which is better (horsepower, torque, daily driving, FEEL, potential in the short and long run.) Supercharged V6 or 5.0 GT.?

Let's pretend that the v6 already comes with a supercharger right out of the box.

I'm biased and have to say go 5.0. Maybe if I drove a "supercharged" v6 it would change my mind but I doubt it. In my mind v8 is the only way to go.

Gotta agree, the 5.0 has much more potential to grow, and makes loads of power with basic bolt ons and a tune

Supercharged 3.7 V6 vs. 5.0 T

A supercharged V6 will make about the same power as a V8 with some bolt ons. Only difference is that a V8 will be more reliably able to handle the power upgrade than the V6 with close to about 150-200hp more than stock whereas the V8 will just need to handle an extra 80hp.

Alright then let me ask you this, which deserves more respect: Blown V6 or Stock 5.0?

Not so sure about that bro. MAYBE it can beat it by a little but definitely not stomp on it.

Both deserve the same respect because they are Mustangs

Once you get outside the realm of basic bolt ons, the car is just never the same anymore. Sure it might be fast, but your always fixing or replacing something.

Comes down to tune and suspension setup. A supercharged V6 will have the same problem as a GT. if you can't lay down the rubber then you'll have launch issues either way.

With a build my philosophy is as follows:
- Suspension first
- Build reliability second (ie forged internals)
- Forced Induction last

It's not a simple answer which will beat what. But at least I think each of the step I listed allows you to make full use of the car to its max potential during each phase. But if you do FI first you will drive like doo doo or blow ur engine. Suspension without power adders you will still drive like a champ cuz you can put the power down.

Good point. Of course I will add the essentials to it. But I'm just trying to single it down to the basic question.

Thanks for the reminder though.

I have a buddy with a SC v6, stock headers, pump gas, 10 psi and he makes 450 whp / 390 wtq. The car rolls out, he ran dead even with our friend that has a fully bolted (headers and everything) and dyno tuned Boss. They basically would trade off runs who would win, and even then it was only by a nose / hood or so. So the S/C v6's can run, there's a handful making 500 whp on the stock block.

That being said ... my buddy is parting out his car for something else because he just isn't quite feeling it. Granted, I have known this guy for about ... 3 years or so, and this will be his 4th car in that time haha so take that for what its worth. The v6's can roll out with the proper supporting mods, but the 5.0 can make that all motor.

Now, people are talking about reliability. I am on path to make ~500 whp (give or take) when I add cams to my CJ set up, but I will be replacing valve springs, tensioners, oil pump gears and basically everything needed to rev to 8000 rpms. At that point, 500 whp vs 500 whp, you tell me which you think is more reliable? I'd say the boost making 500 whp at probably 7000-7500 rpms as opposed to the all motor v8 having to rev to 8000. Not saying my 5.0 will be "unreliable," but I've had to spend quite a bit of money to even get it to that whp, let alone keep it alive at those levels with an aluminum driveshaft and crank pulley.

If you can handle how the V6 sounds (because while my friends rolls out, GOD does it sound awful haha), id say you can come out quite a bit ahead cost wise. Granted, there are some v6's with nice exhausts, so just do your research. If you're like me you'll likely be modding cars your whole life right? People give me crap for spending the money on an all motor 5.0, but its what I want. I'll boost my next car, or the next one, or the next one .... Do what you want right now, at the very least its a learning experience.

Get the 5.0 I had a 2010 4.6 and this 2014 5.0 is waaaaaaayyy better!! V6 is is no slouch but once you start modding them never ends and you will eventually be left wanting more with that V6.

+1 The v6 would be fast but the 5.0 would sound so much better with Roush A/B
