SCT X4 problems

What's up guys, just got my SCT x4 is the mail today and am having literally nothing but problems. I'm just going to copy and paste my email to SCT and hopefully someone here can help me as I sure these guys are out of the office until Monday. Thanks in advance for any and all help.

" I recently purchased an SCT X4 for my 2011 Mustang GT from your company. The product finally arrived today. Per the instructions on the front of the unit, I tried to update it and this is where the problems began.

1.) Windows 8 cannot find drivers for this. So I plugged it into my buddies laptop with win7, great it works, next problem.

2.) The update program recognized my device, so I attempted an automatic update. The update program said my device was at 340/340 for the update, then it immediately said "Update Failed" and every time after that the program would instantly crash. I tried to delete the program and re-install it, Works fine until I plug the X4 in and then try to update it, then it just instantly crashes.

3.) I tried to update over wifi, I get an "update error"*

4.) I eventually said screw it and just tried to load a tune on to my car, went to plug it in and after I get past the stage where it says *to put the key into the "ON" position, I get a "General Error# 11081 Lookup data is missing"

5.) The only thing I have left to do is factory reset the device, which erased all my tunes. So I tried that, and all of the issues still remain.*

I've gotta say, so far I am extremely disappointed with this purchase. I have owned 3 COBB accessports on multiple cars, and never once had a problem of this magnitude.. At this point, my SCT tuner is a paper weight.

Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated."

There seems to be various issues with the X4. I have one and it's been a pain in the ***. Looking on other forums, you will see people with all kinds of cars/trucks having all sorts of strange issues with the X4.

I also have to say that SCT's software is utter crap. I haven't been able to datalog anything because the software won't communicate with the tuner for the datalogs, yet I can pull the numbers from it. Also, I have windows 8.1 and the SCT is recognized. I installed the SCT Device Update software and Live Link Gen 2.

Well that's unfortunate to hear. Maybe I can just exchange my X4 for an X3. It would be nice to monitor some stuff like AF/R's but I can live without.

I would imagine that a firmware update on the X4 and updated software would likely fix most of the issues. Not sure how quick SCT will be with all that stuff though.

Wow I was about to pull the trigger on an x4 about 2 months ago. Wanted to wait to see what kind of bugs it had for it being a new product. Glad I did. Hope they resolve your issues man. good luck.

Welp, just got off the phone with SCT. My X4 basically bricked itself, so I have to send this one in and get a replacement unit from them.

Kind of a pain in the ***, but oh well..

Also kind of a bummer, I called Steeda to see if I could just swap this with one they have, but was told I'd have to go through SCT, which is all fine and dandy, except now I have to pay for shipping on this. I'm sure it'll only be $15-$20, but it still sucks that I have to pay to have a brand new item replaced.

I am not trying to be smart *** but why are you trying to update a brand new device? Just wondering cause I almost did the same when I received my X4. I left it be and just installed the tune and it works just fine.

Because it literally says, on the front of the device "Please update device before installing onto vehicle"

Actually, word for word it says "SCT recommends updating this device prior to use on your vehicle." Then goes on to explain where to get the latest software.

SCT X4 problems

0 issues. Unboxed, used USB Port to power on, connected to wifi, updated device, walked to car, loaded tune , enjoyed new ride.

If there is a new update I doubt I'll care. Pretty much set unless I upgrade to a larger pulley which I don't think I will.

* I hope to not have to datalog ever but updating via wifi is easy as your custom tunes stay on your device.

Unfortunately updating is what killed mine lol.
I guess I'll cross my fingers my internet connection doesn't momentarily drop while the X4 does its thing.

Do the x3 and the x4 essentially achieve the same results though? I know the x4 has more capabilities, but as far as the physical tune that goes into the pcm, it's the same? I got my x3 as a gift for my birthday when a guy I work with traded his f150 in. So, I'm not taking a loss if I need to get an x4 for better results, but I'd rather not. I would just like to buy the custom tunes and be on my way. Running the can tune for now. Already feel the difference. Incredible.

It doesn't make a difference to the tune, the X4 just has more features for data logging, better interface things of that nature. Nothing that will help/hurt your car per-se.

I had to download the drivers from there website. Other then that no issues. Like someone else mentioned, unboxed, updated a million files added tune transfered to car and drive off. It recently had an update again the other day. Seems to display reading faster now while monitoring.
