DOT approved smoked headlights?

Does anyone know of smoked headlights that are DOT approved and retain HID lighting for the 2013 with factory HID'S?

I've been thinking about just getting a tint film (from AM, but not sure if it's DOT approved, as I don't want inspection, or police issues) or even painting the housing, but I've heard that's a PITA to do, and the idea of using an oven on my headlights doesn't sound too good, plus I don't know how I'd adhere them back together.

You are going to have a very hard time finding anything smoked and DOT legal at the same time.

I know, I've seen the raxioms, and 1 or 2 other kits. But I'm not sure if any of them bolt up the the 13-14 with factory HID'S and still have HID'S in them. I'll find a pic of the other 2 and post them.

Well, I looked again, they fit models that aren't factory HID equipped. So now I'm stuck between the Raxioms (which I've heard vision problems about, and I like the factory light appearance better) tint film, or painting the housing.

The vision issue with those were with Halogen bulbs on the 2010-2012 models. I have them and did an aftermarket HID conversion, should work fine with your stock HIDs. Just be sure to get the 2013-2014 versions and not the 2010-2012.

If I were you though, I'd just tint them. Have you ever replaced your headlights on these cars? It's a freaking pain. Especially if you have to keep readjusting them to get the correct height lol.

Yeah, now I'll see if I can convince the parents... doubtful that will happen.

Tinted foglights are legal right? I'm in VA, cops can be strict. I haven't been pulled for my tinted taillights (I think it's legal because it let's almost the same as the factory amount of light though) I know that getting a vinyl tint for headlights is illegal.

I'm trying to get my tails, fogs, and headlights tinted, I'm leaving the side lights alone.

Covers. Put them on when you leave and take them off when you come home.

Covers are illegal on the street, and I've heard night visibility is horrible with them if they are on.

I don't want to get covers if all I can do is just have them on while not driving, waste of money then.

Your not going to find any tinted headlights that are legal if that's what you are worried about.

I agree with you on the covers. VA sucks the fun out of owning a car, for the most part. I have so much I want to do that is either illegal or borderline.

I do have the AM vinyl tint for the taillights, and the Coyote 3rd brake light tint, but again, I'm fairly certain that is legal.

Raxioms are. Just need to try (and probably fail) to convince the parents to let me get them.

One of the few good things about living in Oklahoma. You can do just about damn near anything you want to your car and as long as you don't piss people off doing it, you're all good. Haven't heard a peep from police other than the occasional illegal U-turn because I MAY have been speeding a bit... They usually just get up on me enough to make their point and then move on.

I haven't had any problems with cops. For the most part, I posted about one a few months ago, let's just say I was gone before he could get close, and that would have been impound and jail.

Only time I've had a cop bother me.

Don't know if you saw these, but they are smoked, retain the factory HIDs and are DOT approved. http://m.americanmuscle.com/headligh...-1314-hid.html

Yeah, that's what I've just been talking about. I like them, granted I like the factory design better. Tinting with vinyl is illegal, and painting the housing is a PITA, so if I can get my parents OK, I shall be getting these at some point. If light output is too low, like some people have said in a few reviews, I'll just aim the lights higher.

Covers come off very easily. And the actual lights are only lightly smoked...... You also get used to it. I get in a car with normal lighting and am amazed how bright it is lol.

They use to have one that had the stock housing painted. But that was 05-09...
