Question 15 inch slick or drag radials?

Hey guys I'm looking to get some 15 inch wheels for the rear and I wanted to know what back spacing and offset are you running? Also should I go slick or drag radials? The car is an auto with soon to be 4.10s

Drag radial for sure and the 4.10's won't make the car any faster. Trust me.

Why wouldn't gears make me faster? Seems like I would need gear to use the drag radial.

The auto has steep gears low anyway, that's partly why it comes with 3.15s stock. 4.10 will have that thing banging through gears so fast acceleration will suffer.

Backspacing depends on how wide a wheel you want.

Nope, you don't need any more gear. What you'll need is a converter. Trust me on this.

Those won't require sway bar relocation brackets then. Which wheel? Racestars? Welds?

I was looking at some used setups on Craigslist so I'm really unsure of the brand.

Just looking to toss a set of 15s on when I go out and race. I got my *** beat by an evo mainly due to the 4 cars he got out of the hole.

It would just be a guess on my part then without knowing which wheel. You can get Racestars pretty cheap.

Shouldn't there be a standard offset that our mustangs use?

No, different wheels will require different off sets.

Not without changing the front brakes over to the 2005-2010 front calipers, rotors, and brackets.

So AM did a test 3.15 vs 4.10 gears and the 4.10s gain in a 0 to 60. I'm still not seeing how they won't lower my ET 2010-2014 Mustang GT Acceleration Pack - American…: http://youtu.be/zhq9QCb4xxM

On THEIR car in perfect conditions. Oh and that "power pack" includes a tune and suspension. Hardly a fair comparison.

What proof do you want? A good read. Pay attention to what Mike Rousch has to say on this subject.
Auto guys? Gears over converter?

I ran 4.30's in my 3.7 auto. I had other issues but my disappointing results of the finished car could have been cumulative. Part of the problem was poor tuning, no doubts there...3 tuners later.

Anyway, one thing I was fixated on when I chose the 4.30's was correct...at one time...with a different transmission. Instead of trapping in 3rd, I wanted to trap in 4th. To do that at or just after peak power, I needed 4.30's if not 4.56's with a 107-110mph trap mph. Being fixated on 4th gear and thinking the manual trans' gears were lower...I forgot about it. Actually, the auto's 1st gear is lower than the MT 82. After that, the MT 82's gears are lower. Thus, in the 3.7 v6, they run great with 3.73's trapping at over 107mph in 4th gear.

My last pass before I traded, my tuning issue cause a 1-2 shift time of 1 sec. The others took about .5 secs. I ran 13.10 with a 1.9 60ft with a stall of 3800 at 107mph with shifts like that, in 2500 DA, with 3-4* of spark knock. It was a mess. After a year, I took some parts off and traded for a manual (problem solved) GT. I love it.

That's my experience. Mike Rousch pm'd me the same reason. 1st is already really low. We've yet to have a 4.10 gear guy beat a 3.7 record yet which is 3.73 in an auto. Runner up just happens to be 3.73 in a manual. Coincidence imo, due to different trans gear ratios.

If anything, what you may try is 3.31's from what I'm hearing on another forum. Beyond that, they say no gains. For that small of a change...not worth it imo.

I have 325/50/15" MT drag radials on the rear. Weld rt-s Wheels 10X15 medium pads 7.5" backspacing. Requires relocation brackets, Not expensive and easy to install.

What does "medium pad" mean? That's a new one on me and just curious. Thanks

Not a long time ago, all we used was wheel width and backspacing. From there, we could judge where the wheel would end up relative to the fender too.

In this case the medium pad indicates how the wheel will clear your calipers. I have Brembo brakes so I need a medium pad. If you go to Welds website they explain the low-medium and high pads much better than I can.
