Short Throw Shifters

I've been looking into a short throw shifter myself - the Barton short throw shifter with the two post bracket. I just looked at yours and may consider since it looks so well built. I believe they can do nothing but good if they are a two post bracket which prevents any rotation of the shifter under load. One thing, though. Keep your old shifter because if you need to perform warranty work I would put it back on as they may see a short throw shifter as a sign of track use which would automatically void your warranty.

I have heard great things about the MGW shifter, however I don't have it. I have the Steeda tri-ax shifter with the Steeda bushing. It rocks. It firmed up the shifting a lot.

EDIT: I'd like to add the center spring is much stronger on the steeda compared to stock, so that really helps too.

The top two shifters I hear about all the time are Barton and MGW. I am leaning towards MGW cause it comes with a whole set up a couple of extras that Barton doesn't come with.

I have the Barton and never had a different one so my opinions are only based on the Barton but WOW! I love everything I have done to my girl but the Barton short shifter with bracket was one of the best. Shifting is night and day. Always finds gears easy shifting and much shorter. I love it

I have a Barton shifter and their two post bracket, great great piece! honestly, you cant go wrong with either the MGW or the Barton, these are the top two choices for the MT82 imo

The MGW is a great first step. Look into the transmission bushing and a fluid swap next.

The MGW replaces the entire shifter assembly, while all others (Barton, Steeda) replace just the shifter.

I guess they don't make one until one is ordered, kinda weird.

No they do production runs and depending on when they do it and when you buy it , you either get it right away or not.

I just installed the MGW. Terrific product.

Prior to installing the MGW I was running with the Whiteline Trans Bushing and Energy Suspension shifter bushing but still not happy with the crappy stock shifter. Also not happy with the Whiteline NVH that was way beyond acceptable, in my car, for a street and track car.

So I bit the bullet and bought the MGW. I also removed the Whiteline Bushing while under the car and removed the center section.

With the combination of the MGW and the Whiteline modified Bushing the NVH issues are gone and the shifting is awesome. I can now just rip up and down through the gears in rapid sequence. Impossible before the MGW install. Nearly as good as my prior best in class shifter; my Honda S2000. I bet a drag racer would pick up a second with this setup.

Mine shipped in four days from order. They warn you about possible delays but not an issue in my case.

Thanks for the update, todcp. I'll have to pick one of these up. Curious - how long did it take MGW to ship it? I've heard it can be anywhere from days to weeks, depending on their production schedule.

See my second post on delivery time.
You can call them and they will tell you whether they have one ready to ship or not. I just sent in a web order and was surprised to get it so quickly.

Just talk to mgw my they are out of stock right now but will have some more at the end of this week and that's when mine will ship out so right now is good time to order off you don't want a long turn around time.

Got the shifter installed this weekend, Wow! I should have done this a year ago. Stock wasn't bad... but the MGW is in another league. Shifts are smooth, shorter and precise. The unit is well thought out and the build quality is truly world class. You'd expect to see a piece like this on some of the high end exotics.

I just installed the MGW shifter on Saturday. It was a pain to install without a lift but I was able to get it done with a 2 ton jack and stands. It's well worth the money and I'm very happy with how smooth and precise the shifter is. No more getting locked out of third on high rpms.

Finally took a little longer to get it in the shop than I expected. Well worth the wait with the mgw vs stock shifter it's like night and day. Click image for larger version

I believe you can only buy direct from them, if they have distributors, the prices are the same, not cheaper
