Hey guys , sorry if this is a repetitive topic but it can't seem to find the right info on painting my engine cover for 2012 5.0. Just looking for some advice on what paint/ method works the best . Not sure if it needs to be heat resistant or not and would prefer to not start a fire on the freeway.Any insight would be appreciated, thanks.
When I painted my valve covers I used some VHT Engine Enamel from Autozone. I used a color they had called Ford Red. It is holding up well(5 or so months) and not chipping at all.
You want to use heat resistant paint really for safety because it does get very hot there.
As for the method, I just prepped sanded and painted it. It came out with a semi-gloss look, and it looks great in my opinion.
Thanks!, one more question just because I want this to be a one time job. Do you remember what grit sand paper or do I just need to make it somewhat smooth before the primer .
