Roush Lower grill delete help

For anybody that's done the mod, I'm not understanding the 4mm cut line requirement mentioned in the instructions. I watched the youtube video also, and I'm missing what is needed.

Do I just need to draw a line on the bottom of the grill opening 4mm from the back where the old grill mounts and then gradually work that line to the top corners on each side?

Also, they mention a 5mm measurement for the tape. Again, I'm assuming that I measure 5mm from the backside of the top opening to get the tape in the right place. The pictures they show are horrible and the video zooms in and doesn't really show what to do.

Thanks

Wish I would have taken pics when we did the mod. You should have a template to tape on to make the cut. The 5mm is the black tape, which we didnt even mess with.
Here is ours with the Vortech intercooler.

Ok. I finished the transformation!!! This was a pain to do, but it looks really good. I cut out the template that they provided and taped it to the bumper cover and marked all of the holes for drilling. I drilled the holes and when I went to install the lower metal plate, the holes didn't line up. I laid the paper template over my holes and they were dead on. I laid the paper template on the lower mounting plate and they were not aligned. I wasn't happy, but I got that worked out. The template they provided does not show where to cut the old grill mount out, so I just used a very sharp razor blade knife and slowly cut the old mounts out all the way around. I guess this was what they were saying to do.

Not many options if you have an intercooler like we run though

The Roush grill delete runs about $280. It has the intercooler mounting included. I'll try to get some pics up today of our car now that the front end is complete.

I put their lip on mine. It looks good but I don't get why Roush engineering requires so much butchery to install their parts. The instructions require re-reading - which is asking a lot from guys who hates reading them in the first place !

Does anyone know how the brackets fit with larger intercoolers?

I should have this tomorrow and wondering if anyone ran into any issues with the Afco or VMP HE.

Are you also talking about the rear valence? Just so you know, the GT rear valence only has room for a single outlet exhaust on each side. To install the GT500 mufflers, you need to cut up the rear valence also. As for the lower front grill, the opening has mounting tabs on it from the factory. To open that space up, you need to remove the mounting tabs since they hang into the visible opening. The cutting was actually very easy and clean the way I did it. The fog light install does cut up the front some more, but if you don't cut, the only option is to use the factory fog lights and they are small in comparison. If Ford didn't have that bar thru the fog light opening, more options would be available.

No, I was referring to their front splitter. You have to hack the snot out of your stock splitter so it sandwiches between your front dam/bumper cover and the new piece. I believe this was done to add strength, but if it was designed correctly it could have easily just bolted directly on.

I adlibbed. The large intercooler we have, the bolts that hold the top of the two braces would hit the interooler. I tack welded the top of the brackets in place in lieu of bolting them and having to shim the intercooler to clear. everything clears perfectly and wont be too much trouble if I need to remove them.

tezz, you're right. I forgot that you had to hack that up also. I agree that since it's only plastic, they could've manufactured the splitter with metal tabs that attach to the screw holes and provide the support needed. That would've given me another part to sell to offset the costs!!!!

So this is what gets cut.
Front splitter - old splitter gets cut
Rear valence - rear bumper cover gets cut
front lower grill - front bumper cover gets cut
Roush fogs - front bumper cover gets cut

Too much cutting!!!!!

Got mine in. Didn't use any brackets, just the plastic piece and the screws. She's sturdy.

Did a pretty bad hack job on the opening due to not having the proper tools, but you can't tell.

For 2012 and earlier, I don't believe they had to cut anything. Now for 2013+, they are trying to save money by modifying the cars coming in, rather than taking the panels off and just replacing them.

Example: my front fascia was removed, and a Roush fascia was put on. For a 13+, they take off the stock fascia, cut it up and add some bits, then put it back on.

Luke 11:9-10 “So I say to you ...*search and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

For cutting up the bumpers, I used a new razor blade in a knife and slowly pushed the knife around. The cuts came out very clean and took about as long as using a body saw that required cleaning the edges after cutting. If you go slow, you can control the cut and it won't become a mess. If the cut needs cleanup, just use the knife and slice away a bit more.

I noticed that attaching the metal plate on the bottom and connecting the rods, raised the lower panel and made it very sturdy.
