boosted coyote question

about how many of you have a boosted 5.0?

i have been looking at turbo, twin turbo, procharged, and supercharged. and i know what i prefer for power. but i want to know what everyone on here (the people that actually own the cars) has to say about what they went with, why they went with it, and if they were completely happy with their choices

I'd love to know some answers too. I can't make up my mind what I want. One guy recommends a turbo kit and another guy points toward a whipple. I like superchargers on A v-8 so I wanna see everyone else's reasons for choosing what they did and if they are satisfied.

Well, I don't have mine yet, but it's on the way. I wanted it smog legal, safe, with lots of torque down low, and at least 600 flywheel HP. I'm not trying to make crazy HP and don't plan on racing it.

I narrowed my choices to Whipple, Magnuson, and Edelbrock. I went with the Edelbrock E-Force with a Brenspeed tune. The E-Force's design can make over 500 rwhp on a sock 5.0 at only 5 psi. It also has 15" long runners for increased low end torque. The street legal version #1588, will make over 600 fwhp with the Brenspeed tune.

It's not mainstream, and kinda ugly, but I'm not getting one for the looks. They also offer a 5/60 power train warranty if you use their tune. I paid $5,800 for the kit witch included a custom tune loaded onto a SCT.

We went the Centri route:

Vortech V3, Maxflo BAP, Brisk Plugs, JLT Performance Intake, Tial 50mm BOV, Lund Tuned
636.49 RWHP on a Dyno
469.17 tq

The car is a daily driver that only sees an autocross track and a road track a couple times a year.
We are 100% HAPPY with our choice. There is nothing like rolling at 50mph and punching it. It plants you back in your seat and keeps going.

I did pick up a torque booster w/wastegate because a guy was selling a brand new one for 70% of the cost. We will install it this week. It will get us into boost quicker and will limit us to 10psi which is all we want to push being on stock internals.
I laugh at people when they talk about torque being low on a centri. We run 3:73 rear end and 1st gear is useless. Second is not much better. We have great rubber and suspension and you can still burn the tires off this car if you want. All of the power adders have their pros & cons, however.....the centri package we have, we see a lot more pros and very few cons.

The centri was easily installed by my son and I over the weekend and remotely tuned it with Lund. With all parts and us doing the labor, we are under $6,300.

I'm going with the Armageddon twin turbo kit. It's at JPC now getting installed and tuned. Should be done this Saturday. I loved the looked of twins and there's nothing like only running 7psi and being over 600 rwhp with some nice torque as well. Spool time is almost non existent with the tiny garret gt3076r turbos.

Also if I want more power I literally just have to click a button on the boost controller. No switching belts etc etc.

the Armageddon kit is the nicest kit out,

But the on3 kit has been 9's by alot of people, and has been proven more than the hellion and Armageddon kits.

Before everyone gets on here and starts knocking the on3 kit, do some research and personal experience.
The turbos are made by magnum for one. Amy it's a amazingly nice kit

There is going to be a few adjustment issues. But that's besides the point. The proven tines from the kit speak for them selves.

Plus you can buy a kit, return style fuel sytem, and build your motor all yourself for the price of the Armageddon kit.

TT's and especially the Armageddon kits ar the coolest power adders to have. They look awesome, make great power and have great features, but for practical purposes, it would be tough to drop 15k for that kind of HP on a daily driver. Frequent tweaking and tuning them still seems to be the norm. I have personal experience with a friend that runs twins on his '14. It is not his primary car, so it works for him, but his car is cantankerous but fast.

Alot less in labor then it would have been if I went on3. I'm willing to bet the Armageddon kit wouldn't be much higher then the on3 kit all said and done. Tons of piping new bovs and gates, new turbos, etc. And iirc the "on3" you're talking about in the 9s the only thing from the on3 is the piping which was heavily modified. No doubt the Armageddon kit will be much more easier to tune and reliable. My. 02

Yes the Armageddon kit is the best quality kit out no doubt. You can get the on 3 kit with the billet wheels. Installed and tuned for $6,000

Agreed. I was going to go with the jpc single. But call me insane I just loved the look of two shiny twins in the engine bay.

Not to long. I'm only going to be running 6 to 7 pounds of boost which should get me over 600 wheel. So theoretically all the twin screw guys are running 10 pounds of boost which is instantaneous and running the stock bottom end for some time. So I should be fine till then.

I plan on building the bottom end and doing a magnum swap next year this time.

I gotcha. I don't need to be telling you because I no you no your ****. But I would imagine thedifference between a nitrous shot and a turbo is pretty great .

I no nitrous is safe when used correctly with a good tune but I would imagine a turbo at 6pounds would be much safer then a 200 shot. Yes no?

Yes turbo will be, your stock motor should last longer than mine did. the reason is the power comes on steady with turbos. Vs a instant shock from the hit of nitrous.

That's exactly what my thoughts were when going turbo. Plus with the Garrett dual ball bearing turbos I should get a quick spool time as well. It should be fun. I never owned a turbo car before.
