Welp, it's on. And if I may, the fitment SUCKS. I can live with it, but I am super disappointed with RTR. Especially after all this wait, anxiety, stress etc. It appears that the piece was dropped on one of its edges, or it wasn't formed properly because it's not 100% flush. Hopefully this thing holds up, needless to say I kept the stock Decklid.

By flush, do you mean it did not lay flat on your car or the edges don't go out as far as you thought/too far?

Also, was the tape sufficient? Or not enough supplied?

The edges did not extend the length of the sheet metal underneath. There is a slight gap on either side where you can see the body color. One of the rolled edges (top right near right tail light) looked like it had been dropped and that does not sit flush. The other side does. Poorly, poorly made. Also some chipped paint on the side of it. If I had to give it a rating, it would be a 6 out of a 10.

Plenty of adhesive provided btw.

Did you apply the black out tape on your car? From the actual RTRs I've seen in person, it doesn't seem to be meant to extend the full length. Hence the black out tape they provide to put on your actual trunk.

As for paint issues on the edges, that makes 2 of us now.

I did apply the blackout tape, but I didn't quite understand until the end what it was used for. You can see in that picture the white showing through, ever so slight as it may be. Oh well.

Seriously. Disappointed would be the understatement of the year after al the build up. The paint on the actual surface of it is quite garbage as well.

From a distance it looks good, but that closeup definitely shows the pronounced gap. Reminds me of the $30 magnetic decklid panel I bought from AM for giggles lol. Took it off the same night.

I almost feel as if I could've created a better product myself, and that's bad because I have no idea what I'm doing with metal. It's basically a 200$ sticker that doesn't fit properly lol. I was contemplating ordering the 3 piece rear splitter kit from RTR, but I'm not sure I will now...

My thought was you could do the same thing, maybe not cheaper, but it'd be cleaner.

First, remove the factory decklid, faux gas cap and shave the hump.

Then sand that decklid area down to the metal. Cut out those clip areas, measure and cut out a piece of steel to fill that circular gap.

Weld that in well and then grind the welds down flush. At that point you could have it prepped and painted.

As I said, you're not getting that done for 200 bucks, but it would be the best option for that look in my opinion.

I agree, but that I'd assume would take quite a bit of man hours from a body shop. And while I have a hook up at my local BS, Body Works Unlimited (shameless plug because they're great) I'm sure it would be anywhere from a 300-500$ job. But you're right and I definitely agree. And up close, you can definitely see the shoddy powder coat. I'm kind of hoping it goes to **** so it'll give me a reason to paint it lol.

In your case, you have half of it done. They'd just need to cut that center circle out, weld in the steel and grind the welds.

The paint is going to be around the same anyway. They'll have to sand it down to paint it fresh so it will blend with the rest of the trunk lid.

Do it. Hopefully they will realize that they messed up, and actually ship better products.

Yeah, only thing is, I don't think it would be flush, or uniform with the rest of the car just fabbing up the underneath portion of it. If I do anything, I'll just have them revamp the whole RTR decklid. Smooth out the rolled edge and paint it the RIGHT way. What gets me is RTR could've used a template of the stock lid, and went directly off of that, but chose not to. The stock lid had two screws in it to hold it in place, and keep it flush. No R&D or any thought for that matter, went into this piece. Disgusted really.

So based on your pics, you didn't use the blackout tape? I was out of town for the weekend (just got back and enjoyed the last 75miles with a camaro and a challenger on i95) so haven't touched it yet. I'm still debating on what to do with it. The fact that I waited so long, dropped $220 on a piece of metal and it came in such a poor finished condition around the edges, is making me think twice before installing.

I'll probably attempt it next weekend when I have time.

I used it Die, but I was confused as how to place it because I didn't really fully understand the point of it until it was too late. I figure I can always lift the trunk, and spray it with Plasti Dip if it bothers me that much, which it hasn't. But I'm like you, I hope it holds up...

Oh lol. Isn't there a page in the instructions for it? They should go 50/50 wrapped around the edge and behind the trunk. Ya silly boi.

I don't think I'll need mind since car is black. I'll send them to you lol

This is making me want to say screw the RTR style and just return my decklid panel rather than dealing with all this hassle.

I'll wait for my friend to have his pre order filled and see how it fits on his car lol.
