Mystery wire?

I was installing some upgraded speakers in the rear package shelf of my '13 GT premium this weekend. When I removed the large right side, inner quarter panel trim, I found this wire just rearward of the door opening. Out of curiosity, I removed the electrical tape and found a single small (16ga?) wire in there, black with a white stripe. The end was prepared for stripping with the insulation cut about 1" down and separated slightly there. The harness loom and sticky tie-wrap anchors look aftermarket to me, but I bought my car brand new.

One photo shows where the wire terminates and is taped over, the other photo shows where it routes down under the seat and disappears beneath the carpet.

Any idea what it's for?

More than likely something for the Shaker 1000 option

He has the premiums which would mean he already has the shaker system.

One suggestion I got was that it might be an antenna for a LoJack system. As far as I know, there's never been a LoJack installed on this car. I called LoJack and they of coarse will confirm nothing but did tell me that dealers sometimes install them to protect their inventory and deactivate them after sale.

So far this seems the most likely explanation. If it was part of the Shaker system, i.e. a subwoofer amplifier turn on signal wire or something, someone would have identified it by now I expect. The mystery remains...

I haven't used it recently, being that it's summer, but yes it has worked fine before.

The premiums come with the Shaker 500 which includes the door subs. The Shaker 1000 is part of the audio package, which adds two trunk subs on the right side, exactly where he found this wire.

So curiosity got the better of me (and I had to pull the right rear inside panel again to wire my new sub anyway) so decided to trace this wire. I didn't lead very far, just to under the right rear seat down by the floor behind were someone's heel would be sitting there. I found this (see photo). It is self contained with batteries and a circuit board inside. I tried scanning the bar code but it only came back saying this is the kind of code used to track shipments. Guessing it's a LoJack?

I don't think Ford puts a GPS in the car unless you have the navigation package, which I do not. In the case of the nav package, I would assume the GPS is integrated into the head unit.

My Ford Touch

If you have the "MY FORD TOUCH" feature you do have a GPS in your Mustang. If you crash the car and the airbags go off, That is used to locate you. I have this on my 2012 MCA premium.
My Ford Touch will also give me directions to where I want to go. I find my Garmin 55LMT works much easier and better though, so I really don't use it.

WJBertrand probably has the My Ford Touch on his car and this is how they would find his location if the airbags deployed.

I actually do not have my ford touch in my car, but sync uses my phone's GPS to locate me and call 911 in the event of an air bag deployment. Sync also gives turn by turn directions. Again, none of this works without my phone.

I have a 2012 and mine works fine without a smart phone.

I have a blue tooth capable flip phone and it only works for telephone calls, No texting, or anything else and my Ford touch works fine.
I'm reasonably sure that box on your car is a tracking device and I probably have the same thing on my Mustang.

That's a limitation of your phone, not sync. Again if you don't have my ford touch or nav, sync depends on a smart phone for directions and location.

Whatever that thing is, It's not in my car now! It's certainly not OEM, as it was completely independent of the car's electrical system, not connected to anything. 99% sure it's a LoJack.

It is a jo-jack

I googed the #5500-1103-01 and it agrees with you as being a lojack. I'll bet the dealer probably forgot to remove it when they sold you the car.

The dealer would have had to deactivate it, which I'm told by LoJack is permanent. They probably just don't bother collecting the deactivated units since they evidently cannot be used again. I took it apart and removed the battery - just to be sure, but I'm not paranoid or anything
