5.0 wreck :(

So I have a 2012 Mustang GT, has 18000 on it. Well i got into a fender bender the other day and im currently waiting for the apraiser to tell me if the car will be totaled or repaired.

The auto body shop it was towed to estimated the repairs at 12000 dollars. KBB estimates the car at 24000, no air bags went off. All the damage is behind the rear axle. Frame was slightly bent but the auto body shop has a Frame bender and aligner. So thatll work out well.

But im curious on to what you guys think will be done? will it be fixed like i hope it will be or will they total it?

Usually if the frame is bent then insurance will total it. At least you better hope so. Bc Even if they straighten ot out, it will now be a weak link.

And resale value will be crap.

Not even close to being totaled. They'll fix it.
Don't worry about the minor frame damage. A good I-car certified body shop will be able to get back to the factory specs or probably slightly better than it came from the factory.

Of course, you don't want mishaps like this on your car's "record" but it isn't the end of the world.

I actually appraise cars for a living and I will tell you if the frame is bent or damaged, it will hurt your value significantly especially if it shows up on autocheck. But it is what it is depending on what the insurance company does.

Progressive totaled my 2013 GT Premium with 5,000 miles and just $9200 in damage because the frame was bent. Took a shot square to the passenger side. So you've got a good shot of ot being totaled if your insurance company isn't a pita. Good luck.

My 2014 V6 was totaled with driver side impact and it was frame and 19k of damage! I turned around and got my 5.0.... Gap insurance is a life saver!

Umm, Mustangs don't have "frames". They are unibody.

They still have a frame. And if the unibody is rewelded it's considered frame damage by NCAAA standards.

It's sort of a frame, but certainly not like a conventional one.

They tried to make me get my unibody eclipse fixed when the frame was bent (insurance company). I told them to total it because it would never be right and they said it would so I talked to the people who was suppose to fix the frame/unibody and they said it would never be 100% so I had them to tell the insurance. I would not want a car that ever had a damaged frame. If it is on a carfax, I bet 99% people would not touch that car. I would shoot for being totaled, hope for it anyway.

This ^^^

I would do everything in my power to get it totaled. If that cannot be done, I'd work harder to get a large check from the other drivers insurance company (assuming this accident was their fault) for "diminished value", then sell or trade it.

Thought the damage had to be above the 60% mark of the value of the vehicle to total out

In most insurance cases, yes. However, if you approach them and request "diminished value", they are more likely to total the vehicle rather than "dicker" back and forth with you on an accepted diminished value price you'd be entitled to.

Yes but with damage to the frame. Car is junk imo. I would not buy a car with any type of frame damage.
Best bet is for them to total it

From my understanding, insurance companies will only total the car if the cost of repair is over 70%-80% of the cars value.
