Grille emblem

I have searched the forums for awhile and have been unable to find a thread about the front grille pony. I want to change mine from the stock chrome to either black or red on my 14 GT. Would like to know if it just pops off or what? Any info would be great thanks.

It's held on by 4 little push clips from the back side. Easiest way to do it is remove the front bumper cover/grille. Took me about 20 minutes to do. I bought a black pony from Ford for $34 shipped.

Ok thank you. I will probably just pry the chrome one off. If I break the tabs no big deal because I'll be putting the new one on anyway.

A cheap/easy way would be to tape it off and plasti-dip it. That being said, I think replacing it would look better long-term.

So... if you just want it black. Why not just spray paint it black? That seems the cheapest/easiest route. Not sure about the replacement black pony emblem, but when I ordered the expensive black 5.0 emblem for the fender I was shocked to see what a cheap piece of plastic it was (finish was unacceptable - painting was necessary). Total rip off.

I tried painting mine and it looked like crap. Ordered the black one off ebay and it looks much better. Be careful prying off the chrome one because you will need to use the stock clips on the new one. I lost a couple when I did my swap.

You can remove the horse by removing the grill insert. All you need to do is grab the honeycombs on the left end with your left hand and on the right with your right hand. Pull (hard) straight out. The grill uses standard clips (total of six I believe). Be careful not to scratch your bumper cover paint. You will see the four plastic barbs used to hold the horse. Be careful prying them off, they break easily. I plastic-dipped my horse with four costs and reinstalled. Looks great.

I pulled the grille out and plasti dipped the pony. Did it over a year ago and still looks good.

I vote you take the plasti-dip way. I tried taking those clips out once before. They work pretty well at keeping the emblem in place. I'm plasti-dipping mine tomorrow.
