Joining the 5.0 world from a 3.7

So Im finally pulling the trigger on a black base 2012 gt with 25k miles this weekend. I live on long island and am driving 4 hours to Pennsylvania tomorrow to trade in my 2014 v6 for it, no cash down. Its in amazing condition no door dings or scratches and the interior is immaculate. I have paid off $8k on my 2014 and they are giving me $2k towards the GT. Taking a pretty big loss but my v6 has been giving me problem after problem so I just want to get rid of it at this point.

I have talked him down to $22,300 out the door.. do you guys think I am getting a good deal? or should I try and get him down more? Also, how big of a difference in power should i expect.. like is it a drastic difference from the v6? This is a dream come true for me.. i was raised to love mustangs and i couldn't be more excited!

lmao yup.. but seriously its having acceleration problems. It accelerates rough and sometimes the rpms get stuck for a few seconds. Ive had it in the dealer twice and they cant figure out the problem. Also I have to keep it stock because every time I tune the car whether it be with bama or mpt it runs like crap. Bogs out until I really slam on the gas and then when I floor it, the car refuses to downshift so the rpms just jump in the gear its in which doesn't allow it to gain any power. Hard to explain but its really annoying.

Yea 22,300 but that's including some money from my v6. Its an auto.

Nice, good deal I'd say. They make more around 435 hp according to stock dyno pulls so really underrated. It will be a night and day difference. Congrats on the upgrade!

From what i read the '13 has different pistons to reduce heat? Or its coated with something different can't remember which and a the hood has vents stock to also keep temp down. Guess the heat could cause engine failures? Don't know how often this actually happened

11 & 12 have piston cooling oil squirters. 13& up do not is why the pistons have a coating. Under hood temps will not cause an engine failure lol

I'm so glad I did not buy an 11 5.0. I could of easily been added to the blown #8 statistic and left out too dry with no warranty because it would of been tuned.

Just another great reason too of bought a 3.7. Not one #8 failure, ever. Ba ha ha ha ha

I was thinking less chance of a #8 failure in the 13-14's

Are the pistons any better with the 13-14's over the 11-12's. I mean have there been any #8 issues with the 13-14's to your knowledge?

They are coated for heat, but not stronger.

And yest there has been a few 13 - 14's with the so called #8 issue

The reason for the 8 failure is tuning not the year. There have been less failures in the later years because of the improvements in tuning and all the tuners learning of the issue and not making the same mistake. The pistons are no better in the 13+. Actually some of the 13's have been found to have the oil squirters also. Seems to be completely random which.

I got my 2014 for 27k I think 25.5 is steep for a 13 unless it's fully loaded.

The dealer ****ed me and sold the car to somebody else the morning I was supposed to drive and get it.. guess it wasn't meant to be. I'll prob just wait a little and get a 13-14. I would just keep my 3.7 if not for all the problems. I have a tuner and intake that are just sitting in my room cause every time I install them the car becomes basically undrivable. I'm so frustrated cause I just don't understand what's wrong. And to top it off wen I try and datalog to find the problem the laptop "can't detect the device". So I'm back to square 1. And no matter how bad the car drives It never throws any codes.. which would make me so happy if it did so I can locate the problem.

I think it's probably for the best. Wait for a slightly better deal on a slightly newer car. In the mean time work with your dealership and Ford directly if needed and get that car fixed. Don't let them get away with not fixing something. And for goodness sakes don't tune/modify a car already having issues.
