When I looked up splash guard I just got a lot of pictures of mudflaps, its located directed under the front bumper and extends all the way across the car from side to side

It's also called a stone or air deflector. Should look something like this: http://www.cjponyparts.com/ford-lowe...13-2014/p/AD6/

Go to Official Ford Parts Site | Buy Motorcraft & OEM Ford Parts Online | FordParts.com
Choose by model - 2012 ford mustang
Click on Body, then Bumper
Then it list a whole bunch of illustrations for the front bumper (like below).
That part is typically called a valance or air dam. The fancier ones that stick out are often called splitters.
Be prepared for sticker shock. I think that parts roughly $150-200

Found it thanks! Picked one up for 150. I noticed you said the fancier ones are called splitters, if at some point I wanted to get a chin spoiler or splitter I could still do that with this part correct?

Possibly. Best bet would be to look at sites like American Muscle to find the one compatible with your version of the front end.
