JLT CAI Grab of Pass?

Found a JLT CAI for about $80, has about 5k miles on it. Is that a good deal? How much horsepower will that add to my 13 Coyote?

That's a great deal. With a tune probably close to 30 hp. I've been looking to do the same to mine. I have the tune but next will be the JLT

No power gain without a tune, but generally anything under 50% of street price is a good deal. [NOTE, the JLT may need a tune for you to actually be able to use without damaging your car]

Note says Tune required: http://www.americanmuscle.com/jlt-cold-air-2011gt.html

The tune will add 29hp out of the 30hp ur talking about.
OP I think for $80 it's a good deal tho. U won't gain much from just a CAI until u do full bolt ons but for $80 I'd pick it up to have a reusable filter.

so you just opened a huge debate on power gains with the Cold Air Intake. some will say gains of up to 30 (as stated above) others will say its just for looks. i will say grab it since it will look great on your car, if it amounts to gains then even better if it does not you just got a killer deal on a new intake that makes under the hood look way better.

Bc you are not going to gain a legit 30hp from just a tune and a cai alone.

how much different is your opinon opposed to theirs? you want to prove something or make your comment actual worth taking to mind? Apply some proof that a tune will not get you that much HP.

Seems like cai are less effective on 10+. Any truth to that? And does it have to do with it bending back towards the engine?

Not sure about 10s but 11+ came with a CAI from the factory!

No. On the 10+ cars it comes with a factory cold air induction system that draws air from the upper grille. I only assume it becomes a bottleneck once FI is brought into the equation and the motor simply pulls more air than the stock box was designed to suck in.

Ah so stock system is more efficient so gains aren't as noticeable if they are in fact there at all. Thanks for the into.

Hi WhiteCoyote, when I looked up your JTL CAI, I found out a tune is required to prevent damage to you car, as it is on many CAIs. For $85 its a good buy I would pick uip and put in stash even to just sell to someone later !

Any way, a CAI wont add any real power, the tune will however but the gains are not as much as some folks claim. Here explains why a tune to your cars computer is required. Forget he Pandora box of CAI/Tune or not, if you want it to look good and make noise go for it.

Why Tunes are Required on Cold Air Intakes

here is information on what tunes are:

Problem was most of the aftermarket intake companies were not very honest with their testing results from stock. They would run the stock car with 87 octane to get their baseline numbers. Then after new Cai and tune (plus 93 octane fuel added in) they would show 25-35 hp gains. Very subjective...

You will not get 30 horsepower from a tune and CAI and a CAI isn't going to add any power period.

Now if you step up to a Boss or Cobra Jet Intake then you'll need to address the CAI.

Yes.....and they use the term "across the curve" which can be misunderstood.

Thanks ArtU! The guy has roush axle backs, JLT CAI, and SC3 tuner. I could probabely get all of it for $500. How much of a deal is that? Want I have to pay to get the tuner "tuned" after I buy it? Lol that's where it makes me think if this is a money pit......

How old are the Muffs? You will need to pay $75 to a $125 for a tune, and you need to make sure the tuner is "unlocked" and no longer married to his car.

Used SCT unlocked tuners, about $200, [some can be found as low at $125] or $285 for the tuner and CAI. so you are paying more than $200 for used muffs. And then have to add $100 for a tune.
