Cobra Jet Intake

Thinking about ordering a Cobra Jet Intake for my 2014 gt/cs. My main question is the difference between the three different throttle bodies. Is there a big enough horsepower difference in going with a almost $700 throttle body instead of an $100 throttle body.

I would choose your throttle body based on what your tuner is most comfortable with in tuning.

I had the monoblade because it flowed the most air. It didnt make sense to me to get a massive IM, Massive 5" intake, and then just put a Meh throttle body in there. That being said, the monoblade WAS a little twitchy at low speeds, basically getting through the parking garage at work was a little tricky, but the rest of the time it was perfect. The duals tend to be easier to tune, but a monoblade will flow more.

Also, call Tasca Ford and talk to Steeve. I contacted him over on SVTp and saved almost like $400 off retail by going through a Ford Racing distributor.

Keep in mind with these manifold upgrades you will see zero gains unless you get up over 6800k rpm. And you will actually see/feel a loss of torque off the line and at lower rpm's. Most 'experts' advise against this upgrade until you go FI or upgrade your internals. For me I'd put the $ into a good tune, exhaust and rear wheel traction (lca's, gears, tires etc.) if you haven't done that already of course.

Going to have to disagree with that. My CJ lost some low end below 3000 rpms, and it was very clear i lost some low end torque, but my 3.31s didnt exactly help either. However, it wasn't ever... difficult? to drive or overcome, it wasn't like really bad turbo lag or anything, it was just noticeable. The gains on the other hand, were noticeable MUCH before 6800 rpms, id say probably about as early as 5k, and 5k to 7.5k is a damn good powerband (especially with a 3.31). Being able to launch from 50 in 2nd is pretty damn cool haha.

If you're only interested in 1/4, the CJ 3.31 combo may not be for you, but on the street (not that i would ever condone such things) the combo is VERY difficult to beat (i assume...).

Voltwings didn't you remove your Cobra Jet Intake though and go back to stock?

I did, but for reasons unrelated to power. I found myself doing more road course driving than drag racing and wasnt comfortable spinning a stock GT motor to 7500+ RPMS for 20-30 minutes, so i was only shifting at 6500-7000 rpms to keep heat down... somewhat defeated the purpose of having the CJ, so i decided to sell it and buy a spare set of rims and tires instead.

The car is noticeably slower without it, and i miss it, but like i said... it wasnt really serving its purpose with how i was driving the car.

Now I'm confused. You just said it was useless to have a CJ unless you're running 6500-7000. But your reply to me said 5000 was good enough to feel the difference. Which is it?

The gains start as soon as 5000, yes, but the real meat of the powerband is higher. Whenever i was racing i would spin it to 7800 rpms each gear, but again, i certainly wasn't going to do this for laps on end at a road course. Therefore, selling it for a dedicated track set of rims and tires made more sense to me since you do spend more time in the mid range. It was still making more power than stock at 4500-7000 rpms, but not burning up my street tires (my only tires) for the sake of a few hp just seemed to make sense the more i thought about it.

I actually plan on going and Dynoing again to see how large the difference is.
