Bubbling paint on hood

New to the site and new to mustangs. Just bought a 2011 GT candy red with 20k miles on it. It's in pristine condition other than some bubbling paint on the front of the hood. Looks like it started under the hood and crept around the front lip. Got an estimate to repaint that area and the body shop indicated that this is a common problem with the aluminum hoods but they were surprised it started so soon for me. Unfortunately it is out of the bumper to bumper as of April.

Is this a problem that others have encountered?

My car is getting painted because of the same reason. I went to the dealership because my front bumper is pealing off as shown in the picture Click image for larger version

Yes it's under warranty, they just took pics of the paint and ford had to decide if it should cover it or not.

I don't have my notes in front of me right now but my '12 Explorer has the same aluminum hood problem. I told her we have 70K+ miles on it and she checked on it and said corrosion is covered until 100k so we had some time to bring it in for pictures to submit to Ford. We bought it used as well. If she was correct, you should be good to go on getting it warrantied.

Had the exact same problem. Drivers side above the headlight? Had the whole hood repainted under warranty. That should be part of your corrosion warranty. I think it's 10yr/100k

I was told that unless the aluminum hood itself was corroding that it wasn't covered after the 3 year 30k warranty. I may call Ford myself.

I would escalate it for sure. It is corroding that's why the paints bubbling. Ask them if that's the type of publicity they want, a 3 year old car rusting away already? Don't see the camaros doing that....

Found a used 2012 blue hood without any corrosion. Picked it up and had it painted and installed last week. Very happy with how it turned out.
