Victim of hood rust

2014 mustang GT built 05/2014, Purchased 7/14. Car has 2000 miles only been in the rain once and washed twice. The car is garage kept and yesterday I found 5 spots where rust has started. Very disappointed in ford. My 2010 f150 had paint flake off the roof last month and the vehicle is well maintained. So in the course of 4 years I have spent around $50,000.00 in vehicles that are having paint issues. Ford was contacted about the truck and they gave me the run around, so I had that repaired myself. Just sucks that my family has owned the following vehicles and ford wouldnt help with a $400.00 repair on a 4yr old vehicle.

4 mustangs 1 of which is a cobra
1 F150
1 expedition
1 explorer
3 E350 vans

And my wife's uncle worked 30years at Ford.

My rant is over. Taking the GT in on Wednesday for them to look at it. Any tips? should I ask for a new hood or just repaint the current one?

Honestly...this is fate telling you to buy an aftermarket hood. It will just return if it's the same hood and they won't give you a new hood.

I also have a 2014 GT bought last year. Daily drive in the Chicago area so it's exposed to rain, snow and salt.
No rust here. Plus my dealer told me the hood was all aluminum and be careful about closing it. So how can
It rust? Oxide maybe but not rust.

I'm having the same issue with hood corrosion on my 2011 GT. Mine is only 4 months out of service and Ford won't do anything about it. They know this is an issue and after moving as far up the chain as possible I was told that it's an issue with the aluminum hoods and that ford is well aware of it but has no plans to recall at this point. As long as it's under warranty, have them repaint it. As the last poster indicated, it is pretty much guaranteed to come back at some point. Once it's out of warranty, think about an aftermarket hood if it comes back. I'm was thinking about repainting until I heard that it would end up coming back. I'm just going to live with it until I find an aftermarket hood that calls my name. Just googke hood corrosion mustang and see all the complaints. Ford needs to straighten this out.

I have the issue with my 13. As well as paint bubbling on the entire top of the car. I want a new hood so it doesn't keep happening to this hood, and I'll be getting a full repaint.

Search this topic on the Internet. It's well documented all the way back to 2005. There was even a class action law suit for this problem.

Victim of hood rust

It's ridiculous to have that kind of ongoing issue. One of my favorite parts of this car is the hood. Guess I'll keep looking at aftermarket ones.

Get a cobra r or a harwood 3 inch cowl and call it a day. I hope I get hood rust, that way I can justify buying a new hood.

It won't come back if repaired correctly. Had the bubbling above the drivers side headlight on the hood on mine. Ford dealer uses a local collision revision repair shop. They repaired it under warranty with a lifetime warranty on it.

That's what I'm hoping for cause I don't like any of the after market hoods as much as the stock one

That's fantastic that you got a lifetime warranty on the work. I've taken mine to 3 reputable body shops in my area and and all three guaranteed that the bubbling would come back at some point. It might not be in the same spot, it could me in a different spot on the hood. None of the three would do anything more than a 90 day warranty due to this fact. Took it to a Ford dealer who has a body shop and they said the same thing. All said it's not a matter of if it comes back, it's when it comes back and where on the hood. So, feel fortunate that your body shop gave you a lifetime warranty. I wish I could find one willing to do the same in my area.

Dumb question here. Since our hoods are aluminum can they be powder coated?

I just spotted a small spot on my hood. Looks like I'll be ordering my harwood hood now.

I have bubbling going on along the side seams of the hood on my 14 GT and Ford just denied me warranty blaming me somehow for the damage. Funny thing was that they approved the same type of issue that was on my trunk lid and I did get that fixed. I guess it's time to fight with Ford again.

I've owned mine for almost 14 months and only have about 9,800 miles on it. I also didn't drive it all last winter so it wasn't caused by that.

Granted mine is a sixer but Ford repainted my hood under warranty for some bubbling on the leading edge of the hood. No hassle or trouble at all, in fact my dealer had the work scheduled before Ford even approved since their rep was on vacation.

Would have preferred a new hood and it will probably come back but for now it's good.
