Soft top window defogger wear? 2014

I just came from ford service where they informed me that my rear window defogger is worn out and warranty won't cover it!
They even charged me $42 to tell me this!
I took it to an auto glass shop that does their warranty work and they said it was defective.
They also said the only way to fix it was to replace the whole top....
Has anyone else had issues like this?
Email me at j_ferguson@shaw.ca
I am sooooo pissed!!

They said it was worn off would not conduct. The glass guy could scrape off the grid by scratching it lightly with his fingernail.

Soft top window defogger wear? 2014

That is the biggest line of crap I've ever heard! Take it to a different dealership. My top has been on since 06 no issues!! That's pitiful!

Also e-mail ford customer service or tweet them. They're on Twitter a lot.

Why wasn't it covered under warranty? If you warranty was expired, they charged you for diagnosing the problem. That would explain why is wasn't covered under warranty.

Too many miles?

I had the rear window tinted on my 2014 and there are metal flakes all over under the tint. It looks horrible. I spoke to the tint guy and he informed me that many Ford cars he does have a problem with the metallic finish just wiping right off. Now that the window is tinted, he says the issue is with the car and Ford will probably tell me the issue is because I tinted the window.

Take it to another dealer, the rear defogger is not a wear part. Unless you were back there constantly rubbing it hoping a genie would appear. And ask him how does it wear out.

Check out this thread and contact dehshay.. I had mine replaced at 20,000 miles a year after owning the car.
Mine was not working so the ford dealer ordered a new top and had a upholstery shop install a new top. I was
Shocked that they had to replace the whole top. A little scared that it would get done right.. 100% happy.
Ford of Port Richey warranty mine.. Good luck..
