Wheel Widening Experiences

I really love my CS40 20 inch rims but wanna widen it to 11" or even 11.5" for 305/315 tires.

Anyone with experience having wheels widened? Balance issues? Cracking? Warping due to perhaps slightly different materials being welded together.

It would take a really GOOD high tech machine shop to do it right, and keep them properly balanced. I'd be very hesitant to do it, you'll likely end up with wheels that vibrate at highspeed - best case. Worst case, wheels that leak or crack when put understress.

How wide are your current wheels? You can go 1.5" wider easily without tires looking like they're too big for rim.

So
10" wide wheels you can put some 295's on
10.5" = 305
11" = 315

I have 10" wheels now with 305/35/20 tires. It fits without being too bad but I was looking at the tires the other day and I noticed that if the wheels were bigger the tires would have a wider contact.

The outer rim is slightly inside the outer sidewall so from the front quarter view it seems smaller or narrower by perception as well as Im sure I lost at least half inch to a full inch of contact patch because it's a 10" wheel.

Ive always heard great things about this place anytime the wheel widening topic has been brought up.FWIW there are lots of people running around with properly widened wheels with no vibration issues, or any other issues for that matter

Yeah I heard about them and they're pretty popular when doing google searches on wheel widening reviews. But most of the reviews are immediately after getting it done and haven't seen any long term reviews. I guess a lack of longterm review means everyone is satisfied then and no ones dead from a weld letting go at 100mph lol

It's just a lot of back and forth banter of pros and cons on forums.

My point was don't just go to some local wheel / tire shop that THINKS they can do it, then they slap a bunch of big weights on it to fix their crappy out of balance job they did. I would only get it done by a place that specializes in it, with the right know how & equipment to do it well and keep the wheels true and balanced.

I love the staggered stance with the wider back but I want to have wide in the front too. Then maybe even offset them an inch or inch and a half so they stick outside the fender slightly. I'm always told 10'' is too wide for the front but I think 10 in the front 11.5 in the back would be awesome. If they would fit without issues and I could find someone to widen them...

Widening my rear RTR wheels, and having probably the only staggered set of RTR's would be sweet. Just don't want to take a chance on it.
