I got stripes...

After 5 months I finally broke down and bought a set of white racing stripes for my GT. The plan was to stripe the car from day one but I've been tied up with too many other mods. Initially I was going to go with full length Super Snake stripes but opted for dual 10" Le Mans stripes instead. I didn't really like the look of any of the tapered sets I could find so ordered regular straight stripes from Auto Graphics Pro and selected the "Thunder" set for the camera spoiler. The stripes are pre-cut so installation should be a fairly straight forward.

That said, I called a few places for quotes and most didn't even bother to call me back, I guess they don't need my business. The one place I talked to gave me a ballpark cost of $400 but said it could be as much as $600, no thanks! I have a 3 day weekend coming up and am going to do it myself. I have an installation kit and will make sure the cooler is filled. I'm sure it is a PITA but the videos don't look too hard and it has to be easier than installing a convertible top, don't ask how I know lol.

I'm just saying, when it comes to handy man work i'm pretty good. However, I have learned the hard way that tint and vinyl takes professionals. Don't ruin your vinyl get a professional. There is an art to it lol

Vinyl is a project I will NEVER do myself again. It's a painstaking process. The kit I used wasn't tapered and there were no cutouts, so I had to do a lot of heating a stretching and you can still see where my mistakes were made. If you can afford it, get it done professionally. If not, be ready to live with a few mistakes.

I agree with the above. There is a learning curve. To try and apply them for the first time may be a mistake.

Good luck!

Well I started the job on Friday night, came home and washed the car between rain storms so the neighbors probably thought I was crazy. I started with the rear end, mainly because the camera spoiler looks like the hardest part to do. The kit is very well done and is pre-cut so requires little to no trimming. It even came with different sections for cars without backup sensors, or those that have them like mine. At this point the rear end is done so I will be moving to the front today. I should have it finished tomorrow and can't wait to take some finished photos.

I have to laugh at all the nay-sayers that insist this is an impossible job for mere mortals and that you have to pay a pro to do it for you. Many of those people have never even tried this, they just perpetuate things they have heard or read. This isn't rocket science and is easy if you are patient and spend the time to do it right.

Finished today as planned and very happy with the way it turned out. The only hard part was the little trim pieces on the front bumper because they were not cut correctly. Overall I had a good time installing this kit and saved a ton of money. Forget those guys that insist you have to pay a pro to do it for you! This is a project the average Joe can do with the right kit and a little patience.

Anyone know if they make kits for aftermarket hoods? On my cervini hood couldn't they just be cut short for the nostrils?

I want some really dark grey shelby stripes so it has a ghost effect.

That looks outstanding! Here's a tip for cleaning from a guy who's tried everything. Use Aerospace Products 303. It doesn't streak, leaves a perfect matte glow and is UV protectant. They'll look like new for years.
And no, I don't sell the stuff. It's just that good and it works on all plastic and rubber.

I doubt they make kits for your hood per se but it wouldn't be hard to cut the stripes at the time of installation. There is a Mustang where I work that has an aftermarket hood and stripes, looks awesome.

Thanks to all for the compliments, I really like the way it turned out!
