To those with 3.73 gears...

What kinds of sounds so you hear with these in the very low (500-1500) and higher up (3500+) RPMs. I hear an almost rattle like noise that is coming from the rear when I go to take off in 1st sometimes(differential?). Perhaps when my RPMs are low. And higher up I hear a grinding noise around 3600 that is around the transmission area (clutch?) also, when I go to accelerate fairly hard, the car feels as it is almost bouncing back and fourth during acceleration sometimes (clutch slipping with 50K on stock one?). Please give me your input on my symptoms and any you might have as well. I want to know if it's normal or needs to be taken in. Thanks!

My car barely has 1300 miles. No noises outside of the ordinary though I probably wouldn't hear it over the exhaust anyway.

3 types after moving to frpp handling kit and getting noise 1., took it into stealership and they rebuilt rear, and now 2, and 3. Whine, howl and a light metal scraping sound. They assure me all is okay. 4 trips in. Not happy, but I play tunes and usually have windows down

My stock clutch on my 03 v6 went out at 65000. Could be a clutch. Sounds like a clutch to me.

If you put them in aftermarket you have to be sure everything is shimmed properly. Also, you should add the friction modifer stuff it will help reduced that "gear chatter".

I haven't heard anything out of the ordinary. It sounds like it may be a clutch issue?

Double that. Even though the Royal Purple gear oil comes with friction modifier in it , my installer still used the Ford racing friction motifier as well.

Yep, about 3-4k miles since my swap. No noises. I replaced everything but the differential itself though. I went with the friction modifier as well. Cheap insurance.

I just swapped out from 3.31 to 3.73 gears. There's whining on deceleration only from 35mph but no whining on acceleration.

I got a reputable shop called True Street Motorsports in McKinney, TX to work on it.

They're saying that possibly the LCAs that I have with the spherical bushings are transferring more NVH than a stock LCA.

Other than the noise the differential is smooth as butter. No thrashing or grinding. Nothing metallic clunking. Just finished putting 120 miles of tender driving on them.

The tech explained also that the ring gear is bigger (or has more surface area) so something about the pinion and the ring gear has inherently more NVH and depending on your set up it can have more NVH than others.

They advised that it's fine and give it a few more miles to properly let the gears break in and it may get better once the teeth are polished out when broken in.

Check your rear axle bearings as well. I had whining on deceleration prior to the swap and had them replace those while they were at it.

(Had a visible leak from the seal as well). The noise completely stopped after the swap.

They replaced the pinion bearing and used royal purple. I'll let the gears break in and see if anything changes. I'm not too picky on the NVH just so long as it doesn't explode on me when I finally get to romp on the gas again. Lol

Yeah I had them replace all of the bearings, seals and clutch packs, but since my car was 60k miles and had a visible leak I threw in the axle bearings since they had to pull those axles to remove the c clip anyway. Glad I did lol

Oh snaps. Well I guess I'll get that replaced when I put in my one piece DS lol.

Well I guess whining doesn't really hurt or anything. None of the dozens of threads I've read came out and said "my Stang's *** end blew up and sent shrapnels everywhere."

My 2c - I had a metal on metal rattle at times after some mods so I got underneath it with a mechanics stethoscope and a buddy revving the engine up and found my exhaust hanger rubbing on part of the nearby body. I zip-tied a rubber hose around the hanger and it's never made another rattle.

Handling kit has a few stiffer suspension parts it might be those parts making the noise. You pay a little price for the higher performance.

Also, it lowers everything 1" so you might want to verify the pinion angle is correct. That might cause some additional noise from the driveshaft/pinion.

I agree. That's why I'm looking into new LCAs an adjustable UCA and new bracket (sound like BMR ?). Should help with new LCA busing squeak, which might have been caused as by product of lowering with some hard starts. And will help get the pinion angle back to spec.
Before taking the dive, want to contact dealer to see if, 1) they'll install, 2) impact to drivetrain warranty, 3) if they don't install and I do, will that affect dt warranty. This car has a history of being in their shop for track pack 3.73 noises, following the Ford install of the FR3A handling kit.

Noise is not normal, FRPP gears do not need to break in, they should be dead silent from the get go. Whoever you had do the install ****ed up. Take it back to the shop and get them re-done or have a mechanic that does not have his head all the way up his *** re-do them.
