I just bought a 2013 GT RTR w/a Paxton SC (w/their standard tune and it has a rough idle... it will sometimes almost stall. Seller said it has always been like that...?) T-56, Ford Racing rear end 3.73 gears, Wilwood brakes.

I have heard Lund can take care of the idle with a tune. I did check for vacuum leaks and found none. I just installed NGK 1step colder plugs & ordered a JLT CAI, BAP, and X-pipe...waiting for them to come in. Is it worth getting the tune now and having him update the tune or just wait until I have it installed?

On the List is a premium gauge.. But that can wait.

Well, you have one of my dream cars. If it was dark red.

AED, Lund or MPT. AED does a real good datalog remote tune, so does MPT. Unsure how Lund works but hear nothing but good things.

These cars don't come with T-56's. Did someone install it in place of the MT82?

Yes. He installed the T56 and a new ACT clutch, after he added the supercharger.

Perhaps he didn't do a crank relearn when he did the clutch and transmission? That would explain the stalling.

I actually just replaced the sensor and added the o-ring & did the crank position relearn...( props to Ford Racing for sending me a Ford Pro Cal free of charge to use. Dealership wanted to charge $130.00)

It helped with the CEL at WOT (0300 , 0304), but idle didn't change. I also did an idle relearn several times.. Still though, When I come to a stop at a light.. It will be fine and then after 10 seconds.. It will drop and then jump like it is starved for fuel. It has 11k miles on it. No CEL's at idle.

Someone suggested cleaning the TB and/ or putting the stock tune back.

I could go back to stock and see what the idle is like. I don't think it is a bad idea as long as I don't rev it, but I am open to any feedback.

I don't think cleaning the throttle body will do any good.

You could try returning to stock and see how it idles.

Beautiful car. That color is badass. Congrats. I have seen pics of your car a while back. (maybe when it was being sold). Lund tuned our car with a similar setup as yours and this car has no idle problems at all. It runs great in every rpm range with no stalls or hesitations. Lund even threw in a Cam Lope tune for this car. Now...that is rough idling tune LOL.

Tune Rec's and mod suggestions..

Thanks for the input Grabber.-So there shouldn't be any issues with the stock tune just running at idle?

Rapinator-good question. I am thinking they are ones that came with the Paxton/vortech kit. All I could find in the install manual is that they are hi-flow 47lb EV14 ( not sure the brand). In your opinion should I be good to test stock tune at idle to rule out the tune?

Grabber & Rapinator- Thx for helping me trying to trouble shoot.

thx Deerslayer- the color is what got my attention at first. I appreciate the feedback about Lund. I am for sure leaning towards him since I have plenty of open roads for Safe WOT data collecting. Once I get the CAI and BAP, I'll give him a call. My understanding is that the BAP is needed when you have the CAI of FI. Am I correct?

The BAP is a good idea boosted. It is a simple install and should give you some piece of mind not leaning out being fuel starved. Unlike naturally aspirated, the JLT intake does move significantly more volume with the centri installed compared to the stock air box. Stands to reason if you are moving more air, you need to move more fuel. Look forward to your results

Update: cleaned the TB and MAF & re-tightened claps for SC.. Still same. The idle jumps/surges more when the engine is cold but still does it when it is warm. Guess the only other option is to reflash back to stock and see what the idle is like? Would anyone recommend not doing this for any reason?

Personally, I would not reflash back to stock and run the car with all the mods you have. Do you have an off road mid pipe?

With aftermarket injectors and stock tune, don't do it.

If your running the 47lb it's not a injector problem. If it had 60 lb or 80lb it would be your problem.

Thank you both for your input. I won't reflash.

The car had a magnaflow x-pipe at some time.. It was removed and RTR exhaust was put back on. From what he said the Tune from Paxton was done before any other mod, and has not been updated.

I am getting the X pipe reinstalled with magnaflow cat backs in about 2-3 weeks.

On a separate note... Fuel boosters. VMP Plug n Play or Vortech Maxflow.

You both have dealt with Lund, any feedback on any other mods that would help him tune outside the CAI & fuel booster? I am still on stock internals (for now) so not looking to go above 620 Rwhp.

Thanks

Does you car still have Cats? If so, going to an Off Road mid pipe will help the car free up some power. I am sure they will be able to take what you have and make it work great. The good thing is you can make changes as long as they are not really significant changes and they will do your revisions for nothing.

Still has the cats...for now. VMP Bap is on order as well as CAI. By that time the x-pipe and exhaust should be here and installed. I can then reach out to Lund for a tune in Dec.

I would talk to Lund, have you tried an Idle relearn? Sometimes that can help with idle issues.

Yeah, I tried the idle relearn twice. No difference. I was hoping when I did the Crank Position Sensor reset that would help too, but it didn't. I was going to get a Lund tune, but I figure with the X-pipe, CAI and BAP coming in a month, I might as well wait. I know he does update tunes, but not sure if it is the same process. Hell, maybe I'll call him on my lunch and get his take. Thanks.
