Delay in feeling the tune?

I know, another topic about tuning. I know this may be a dumb question, but here goes. I have a buddy with an FR-S and he had it tuned on the Dyno by a local shop in town. They told them that it could be a couple days for the computer to learn the tune and him to feel the difference. Any truth to this? I got a tuner from bama and I was expecting a little better performance is why I ask. Just wondering if driving it more will help?

Certain parameters need time for the ecu to cycle thru and "learn" that is true. But it's mainly for idle learning and to learn driving patterns. They store these parameters from the sensors so that it can quickly calculate without having to constantly evaluate the sensors every time you start the car.

So if the tune is gonna give you an extra 50hp you will feel approximately 50hp from the moment you load the tune.

Think about it. If it takes 50 miles before the engine can maximize the benefits of a new tune then dyno tuning would take 150+ miles each time they tune the car. You will see the immediate benefits of a tune.

I figured it was instant. I bought the car from a dealership and it only had a x pipe and cat backs on it. I figured it wasn't tuned. I feel like it pulled harder before I loaded the tune though. Guess I may give Lund a shot. If the sct tuner saved the stock tune but it was in fact an aftermarket tune, could I just reload that and be back to where I was?

Not understanding the last question. But I think the SCT tuner allows you to look at what program is installed by plugging into the OBDII and selecting a menu option.

Worst cast is whoever tuner you bought your tune from can give you a stock file and you can return to stock with that before uploading a new tune.

This part I'm hazy about. I know the SCT downloads the stock file to the SCT before uploading. But I'm not sure if the stock file on the SCT gets replaced if you don't return to stock first. That's best an SCT question or maybe someone else knows

Thanks, it actually felt better on the way to work today. I think the fact that I had been driving the car for a while and then loaded the tune skewed the butt dyno results.
OP-Sounds good! Thanks for keeping me in the loop on this! Again if there's ever anything I can help out with shoot me a PM and if you have a tuning question and need an answer immediately don't hesitate to let the Bama crew know, they're always around to help as well! Enjoy!

I talked to the Bama guys themselves - the stock tune file stays in the tuner. Provided you don't do any new mods and get new tunes, you don't have to return back to stock every time before you go to a different pre-loaded tune in your tuner. I thought the same thing originally but I've switched over several times without any problems. If my wife is going to drive the car I just flip over to the 89 tune off the cam tune.
