drivability of ghost cam tune?

I have heard varying opinions on this, what is your take? Who did your ghost cam and how is it for a DD? If it's too much of a pain for the real world DD then I will just forget it but it does sound nice with an offroad X!

Mine is a pain at low speeds, its difficult to work the parking garage at work sometimes, and i've stalled in a parking lot before, its a little tricky to get going some times. It's cool, but looking back i wish i'd just saved the $75.

Wouldn't exactly call it fake. I think I read somewhere that these stock cams would actually have a nice lope to them if it weren't for the something or other I'm not too familiar with as far as inside the engine. Cam phaser maybe? Really can't remember. (still new to these dohc engines) But anywho I think it's a neat concept for novelty at least.

Well thanks for the input joe- I may just disregard that option.

And Laquisha thanks for the input- I hope to make my mustang the riciest one around so that is why I was asking about this. Have any recommendations for a good NOS decal site?

I have the Lund on on my auto. Sounds good. Dies probably 1 put if every 4 times I come to a stop. Or, if I touch the throttle in N it'll die 99% of the time. I hear they're better on the m6. Came with the tune for free, I wouldn't dd it though

Better than spending $2000 on a set of cams for minimal gains and no lope. There's nothing wrong with a ghost cam tune, plenty of people running it with no problems. Unless you're auto, then it's probably not a good idea due to the effect it has on drivability.

I asked BAMA about and they said shouldn't run every day. Maybe on a weekend when going to a show or tooling around some but not to leave it on all time. I didnt ask why though

I thought Bama wasn't offering the ghost cam tune any longer. I was very recently told by them that they don't do those anymore ?

What year is your Mustang? Manual 6spd? If new enough try out the Track key option.

Well lets just take a look at this {like Ronald Ragan would say}
I had a Ghost Cam on my V6 Auto before , it was awesome but I had to have the MPT tuners make it just a little less ... (yea it was KEWL)

I now have the Ford Racing TrackKey Tune on my V8 MT82 manual and the LopeCam from the Phasers {not fake} are told to me to buystanders "Old School" and rock my Borla ATAKs.

The Ford Racing tune does not dump gas as its 50 state EPA approved. It will not burn your cats up. [MPT saves your cats with a safeguard as well]]

I have the Stage 2 Ghost Cam from MPT. Perfectly driveable, it does get a little jumpy at stops but nothing major. It's just something you have to get used to.

Just a note, if you have an Auto trans, they won't give you a Stage 3 because you can stall going slowly in reverse. With a manual trans, they offer the more extreme Stage 3, but it will require you to adapt your driving.

It did affect city mileage though. I can't comment on cats as I've replaced mine with an off-road Pipe. The biggest complaint I have is with my ATAKs, it's pretty damn loud and hard to hear in drive-thrus.

Besides Lund I dont know anyone selling the cam tune for 5.0 anymore, An i cant see spending 200$ for a tune just so the car sounds cool. If I can find it cheaper then ill get it but till then.

Had a bama ghost tune for a couple thousand dd miles, and switched to lund. Changing nothing, I gained a half sec in the 1320'. Drivability is way better with the lund, and sounds much more aggressive. Have put about 20k on the lund so far dd. The only downside with the lund is that it has a very high idle (about 2k) until it is completely warmed up (10 mins of driving ). Makes it rough to leave in the middle of the night without getting shot at in my neighborhood!
Love it though.

MPT, I had theirs in my past V6 3.7, made it very aggressive sounding moving slow or fast with my Borla S-types/Ford Racing Sport muffs. Nice parking lot cruzier even.

Cam Lope tune is not meant to be a daily driver type tune. It is a novelty tune. We have one for this supercharged car that sounds cool and is ok to drive, but it is only loaded when showing off and not doing a lot of driving.

Loaded mine. I can see where this isn't a DD tune. Sounds cool but it's a little "hinky". Sounds more like the car is struggling. And the car lurches forward at a stop.

I'll leave it on a bit to get a better judgement.

That is what I like about the TrackKey Ford Lope tune. I can start the car holding down the Cruz-Off button and it removes just that part of the tune only. Launch control is kinds kewl also.

I would get Ford's TrackKey Tune, but there's no Auto love from Ford. (manual only)

Ghost cam is a gimmick. Run an optimized tune and impress with performance instead of said gimmick.

Why not have both?
Running 12.50@114 (on oem pirrellies!) with my lund race tune WITH ghost cam tune. Best of both worlds. Very drivable day to day.
Not sure why some people say it is rice. No difference than changing the exhaust to make her sound better.
To each his own I guess.

It is a personal preference , just like exhaust sounds that Gettin' Off mentioned.
Many older folks that grew up with street motors that had large overlap like the sound. The sound, lope, and shakin' was created because the engine was not efficient down in the low end, or at idle it could barely run. tTe overlap and durations were for high RPM.Modern Cam and timing technology now allows engines with large overlap at high RPM and good down low trq and smooth idle. Frankly I always wanted a car that sounded like my old days and now with Fords TiVCT and Borla ATAKs , I have just that now; plus good low end TRQ and with the Ford Tune I get better mileage as well over the stock tune. [Boat loads of timing added but at the cost of High Octane requirements]

drivability of ghost cam tune?

Same here. The sound is pure preference. The lope is just for me and it makes me giggle sitting at a stop light. I pay the monthly payment so my smile is what I spend my money on. Rather anyone wants to admit it or not. Hearing a car lope brings a smile to your face.

I have the Lund ghost cam on my 2011 5.0 and it is a tiny bit harder to drive but very easy to get used to and it does effect gas mileage it dropped from averaging almost 19 to about 16.5 maybe it's just my lead foot since I got tune also.
