It's normal. They don't come painted or treated by the factory. You could always treat and spray some black on it yourself, but those who have these rusty rears will know!

I got my 2014 GT new in March. Got it home and was looking it over. Jacked it up and was really surprised by the surface rust on the rear end housing. So first thing I did was to clean and paint it. Too nice of a car to leave it that way.

Unfortunately... very normal, even for cars straight from the factory.

I'm surprised at the rust. I bought my 14 and it was built in June of this year. When I had it up on the hoist the rearend is painted black. It has the TrackPak if that makes any difference, with finned aluminum cover. I looked at friends 2011 also with TrackPak and it doesn't have an aluminum cover and the rearend isn't painted..................go figure.

If it is a 2013 then Mory, it's not a Track Pack, but maybe a Brembo Brake Package. 2013 and 14 track packs have the finned diff cover.

My winter project is to install UCA/LCAs and a FRPP girdle cover. While I'm at it I'm going to pull the axle and paint it with POR-15. Yeah I know nobody sees it but me but it irritates me to have rusty parts on a new car.

Every mustang ive ever owned had the same axle rust. Bought my 14 new and it was rusting from day one. It's only surface rust, no worries

You can spray it with some stuff from home depot ,Rust-oleum that turns rust into a paintable surface.
