Lund Data Log - anyone dumb this down for me?

My 1st concern is am I harming my engine and do I need to put on another part?

Robert,

Fueling looks pretty good, but you're getting some knock activity indicating you have a fuel quality issue or oil is getting by the PCV (if you don't have a separator or breathers) and lowering effective octane, OR it is false knock. False knock is typically caused by exhaust rubbing, etc. The next step is to pick up some octane booster like Lucas or Torco (Torco is more potent) and toss a bottle/can in and drive on it, do some WOT pulls to let the knock sensor learn then re-log the same log for me so we can see if it helps the knock activity dissipate.

Knock ****** is the computer keeping the engine alive by preventing detonation. Basically, he is saying that the quality of your gas is sub par, OR, you have oil reducing your effective octane.

1. If adding the octane booster clears the knock, then your gas is likely sub par and you should probably choose a different station.

2. Oil will reduce the effective octane of gas. Oil gets into the system via the PCV since the engine uses manifold vacuum to siphon the crankcase of fumes. Putting a separator in is always a good idea, i run the firewall unit from Bob's myself.
Bob's 2011+ 5.0 Ultimate Firewall Oil Separator Kit
You can always see about sourcing your own lines and fittings, but good PCV line is ~$10 a foot anyways so... you dont save much.

3. Rattles. A knock sensor is just a microphone, so it can pick up false "noise" in the engine bay such as loose exhaust bolts, an intake that isnt buttoned down ... things like that.

Heres a thread i made a while back if you'd like to familiarize yourself with your logs.

Picked up a separator. Hopefully it's straight forward install.

the separator is probably going to be the easiest install of your life. it's even easier than reaching in your pocket for the keys and pressing the unlock button.

Did you get the bobs one? Its not "That" easy, you have to do a little work, but its by no means a complicated install.

Here's what I'm doing. Vmp said he would like me to run a 91 tune but use 93 octane. On my supercharger tune in case my fuel isn't very good quality I won't be running as much timing and the octane will make up for the quality of fuel.

that's for a single side (passenger) you can add the drivers side for extra (only necessary on boosted applications) but it's a high quality piece, I bought one just recently, very very high quality, makes the JLT piece look like a toy pretty much

Don't doubt it's a quality piece, but it's a canister, mount, pipe fittings and hose. Little spendy for my taste, Thx.

An easy pcv fix is just picking up a breather kit for 30-40 bucks. As stated many times before your engine knock or lack of is gasoline dependent. 91 octane is usually a minimum for adding any timing. If your running a supercharger VMP on 91 octane I would invest in some torco to keep your engine alive or plan on running soft on your tunes. fyi

I'm running a 91 tune but running 93 octane. He said it would be a safety blanket.

Thats what i thought, and just spent $125 for the "bare bone" kit + firewall mount... Then $30 on Pcv grade silicone hose ... Then another $20 on fittings that arent even as nice as the AN ones provided. So i saved a little money said and done, but really the kit is just worth the money.
