I'm using American Racing 1 7/8" to their catted H pipe. I love the rumbly sound. It's calm during idle but when you get on it, it roars. I also have the Borla S - good stuff.

^ This. You can't go wrong with ARH, and Borla S types.

People say that straight-through mufflers sound best with an x-pipe over an h-pipe? True or no?

I would say yes. Theoretically speaking, straight through mufflers make your exhaust note slightly deeper and maybe tad bit quiter over a chambered one . So does H pipe. Hence your overall exhaust could be really deep, but it be mellow.

An x pipe on the other hand cleans it up a bit, without sacrificing any loudness.
