White letter tires

I've seen many mustangs rockin the white letter tires and I looked into. Many people replied stating they used oil based paint pens to basically color those letters in.

Is this typically how people get white letter tires or?

Thanks in advance guys!

Lol clearly you weren't an 80s kid. Back then it was very difficult NOT to find white letter tires.

Nowadays most of them are paint pens used for the white affect. Earlier tires that naturally came with the white letters people often carefully sanded down the sidewall to get the complete white walls.

What for? All you had to do was have them mounted inside out.

I think you misread what he said. If you sand the sidewall on a white letter tire, it exposes the white sidewall - making whitewall tires. Many of those tires actually had the white layer under the upper black surface.

Those were a pain in the butt for a teen like me in the day, because I would eventually rub thru the black layer on the curb after a year or two due to my bad parking skills.

White (wall) letters is American. Paint pens are awesome because it's cheap and if it wears down you can do it again and again.

I had white letter tires on my cutlass when I was 17. Never curbed it because I liked them so much and thought about it every time I parked.
