2011-14 5.0 vs 07 corvette base model

Which one is faster ? Not the z06. The base model vette 2007 or a new 5.0 stock for stock..

I see. A coworker has a 2007 base model nd he says that the new 5.0s are no match for him.

The 07 is the LS2, which has 400hp, but is also a lot lighter and puts down power better than the 5.0.
08 they got the LS3 so then it's even more in the Vettes favor

If it was a Z06 it wouldn't even be a race.

One can make a 5.0 Mustang GT faster than a vet, but you have to put a lot of money into it.

Not necessarily alot. Just in the right places.

At the dragstrip 5.0 will have the upper hand. From a roll the 5.0 will need at least 100 more to the ground

Depends on what you like. I'd take a Vette over a Mustang any day

A stock auto car should lose to an auto or manual LS2 car. A 3.31 6spd should beat an auto ls2 but be a close race while losing to the 6spd car. A 3.73 car should be a driver race.
I have beaten an LS2 car on the highway from a 40 MPH roll to around 120, pulled a car and a half on him after being a length behind. LS2 Vettes respond really well to mods so all bets are off mods versus mods. LS3 cars are an entirely different story.

Interesting thread because the original owner of my 14GT traded it in on new 14 Corvette. My Mustang only had 2700 miles and came with a Airaid CAI and SCT tuner, the motor is set to the onboard tune at the 91 octane level. If I could get traction to the pavement in 1st and 2nd I'd try one on for size, but with the 3.73's and Pirelli Zero's there is just no traction to be had, even a roller in 2nd just lights the tires.

The Corvette is a sports car, while the mustang is a sports coupe, why compare the 2? The corvette is normally to be compared to euro sports cars, or if you want to compare to another american sports car, a viper. The 3 american sports coupes comparable to eachother would be the challenger, camaro, and mustang

No, comparing a 5.0 to a Z06 is like comparing an apple (5.0) to a case of premium oranges (vette).

Any car enthusiast worth a lick should be balls deep in research reports, videos, comparison tests.

5.0 vs Z06 Numbers:
0-60: 4.3-4.4 vs 3.5-3.6s
Lateral G: .95-.96 vs 1.03-1.06g
Qtr Mile: 12.8 vs 11.3-11.5s
Track Times: lol at the 5.0 vs Z06
Weight: 3600 vs 3300

I thought we were just comparing a "regular" Corvette, not a Z06.

Either way you make out better. I purchased my car brand new for 28,000 out the door put another 20,000 in it ( so far ) and makes 700+ on the bottle. So 48,000 total so far. And a new c6 z06 cost 60,000 + so I win

I traded in my '06 auto C6 with mild mods. With the mods I have now, my 5.0 is faster in a straight line. The C6 would obviously be faster in the twistys. I could dump a bunch of money into my suspension, but it's not that important.

At the end of your drag race though it'll still be able to turn pretty well. The Corvette is simply more car. Yea you pay more, it's also much nicer. Your car is bare bone base.

Didn't buy my car for luxuries. If I want that all I have to do is take a stroll over to my dads house and grab the keys to anything I want.
So that is completely pointless.

My car was purchased for one reason.

You can have that reason, but not have a stripped out car. Look at the cars that dominate TX2K races, usually Lambos with full interior. Those cars were built for a reason, but don't need to sacrifice certain things if you don't want to. If you want it lighter, thats only a few fiberglass or carbon fiber parts away.
