Roush axle back drone

Hey guys, for those of you that have Roush axle backs, do you experience any drone? If so, was there any break in period for the drone or is it there to stay?
I'm experiencing at 70mph and up on the highway.

Drone happens. Just sit back and enjoy the sound of a wonderful V8 like I do. I find it soothing on a long drive. Like listening to the hum of a ceiling fan at night.

Solid axle back choice for the money. If you ever plan to do any other performance mods other than a tune they will likely be too loud with off road x pipes and such.

I read that they had the least/no drone and that's why I bought them. The tone is surreal and I couldn't be happier.
I just wish the drone was at 80mph+. Haha.

I'm not sure what gear ratio I have since I got the car just a while back, but would that affect drone at all?

If you had drone it would be at a different speed than others with different gear ratios. It would be at similar rpm's on all cars. Make sense?

That makes sense. I was curious if a different set of gears would have drone at higher speeds (which I wouldn't be cruising at). It's not a big problem by any means; It only bothers me when driving 3+ hours

There's a tag on your rear that will tell you what gears you have as well as a sticker on the drivers side door jam.

If you remove the sound tube, that might buy you a little quieter interior.

Do you have headers or are you running with no CATS?

Have you done this on yours? Where is it located in the exhaust?

Everything is stock except the axle backs. Thinking of getting a tune and CAI at some point. Seems like a lot of people have those. Not sure if that will make any exhaust sound differences.

The sound tube comes off the intake to the firewall. It's not in your exhaust bud.

No those won't. I am running BBK Ceramic Headers (Shorties), Catted X-Pipe and Ford Racing Sport Axle-Backs. These are not legal in California.

If you get on the gas you can really hear them. When cruising on the interstate, no drone at all. I can hold a conversation with someone in the car. Pretty sure the catted X-Pipe helps that out. It takes awhile till you can find the right configuration, which varies from person to person.

Good Luck!

Ok. Sweet. I'll be tweaking things here and there in the upcoming year as I get the money and I'm sure it'll change once I do headers, etc.
So many things to mod on this car. Lol.

I hear no drone at all, that's what I love about the roush axelbacks. They sound so good and when you floor it they just explode.

I was starting to get a little bit of drone on my Roush AB at about 2,000 rpms right before I switched these out for the GT500 AB. The system still sounded very good but was a little louder than I wanted in certain circumstances.

It'll be loud af with an offroad x or h. Ask Trevor lol. He also didn't have resonators but it sounded good when he had just roush axle backs and resonator deletes.

I do not. Really the addition of a x pipe will do nothing for gains. Supposedly it will change the note a bit and effect the deceleration pop. The roush is a one trick pony and limits further exhaust mods with getting too obnoxious for most people. If I ever feel the need for further performance mods I would sell the roush and go full system 3 inch headers etc.

For the money it's hard to beat the sound the roush delivers. I just started listening to other full exhaust systems for fun and I still like the roush better.

Yes I agree with you. Roush just sound so good. I do like the Borla Stype AB. They sound nice. I was wondering what an X pipe would sound like though. My neighbors all tel me they don't need an alarm clock any longer as me starting my car every morning does the job!!! Hahaha

I'm experiencing at 70mph and up on the highway.

I just put the Roush axle backs on Yesterday morning, they sound great way deeper sounding than my pype bombs and do not drone AT ALL. Not at any speed really I tried several different speeds while cruising to test the drone, nothing, but as soon as you step on it its there. I would definitely recommend Roush.

I also have an after cat x pipe and I love the way it sounds, but I am trying to decide if I want to go catless or high flow or just keep it the way it is. My problem with catless is really I just hate the smell and I cant really find any bolt on hi flow cats without having to buy a whole new x pipe and spend between 500-800 bucks. If I found a set of bolt on high flows I would pair them with the Roush in a heart beat. IMO I think catless sounds great with the Roush, I don't like screaming loud but to me the Roush with offroad x pipe is loud when you want it and when you don't it really isn't that loud but to each their own

I had them on my 2011. Best sounding exhaust I've ever heard and I'm looking for some for my 2014.
But with that said, how can people say there's no drone with a straight face?
Seriously people...yes they sound sweet but they drone like a m$&@$& !
You mean to tell me you don't have a hard time hearing phone calls and don't have to raise your voice quite a bit?
Yes..if you're coasting in 6th gear with no pressure on the gas...they're soooo quiet and no drone.
Now.....who wants to sell me theirs?!

Some people confuse drone with just being loud. Drone is a interior resonance that is not present in the roush. Drone is best explained as an uncomfortable frequency that hums in your ears. Has nothing to do with noise level. You want to experience drone try Flowmaster 40 series mufflers with no tail pipes.

Ahhhhh! I see what you're saying now! I get it. Then I would have to say that my Roush had no drone then. There was no weird low harsh tones or frequency that was unpleasant.
It was loud! But a nice loud. I absolutely loved the sound they produced, reminded me of a nascar. I didn't like that it was also so loud inside when I wanted to call my wife.
But, like I said, I'm getting them again for my 2014 Because......ROUSH FTW!
