I was so stupid

Earlier last year, I finally bought a car I dreamed of all my life. A black on black Mustang GT manual. It was a 2011 and I hadn't been in a Mustang in 20 years. Well I had no clue just how freaking sweet the new Coyote 5.0 is! Every time I drove it, I had a big stupid grin and couldn't believe the power.
Well, I had a base model, so my old fart *** wasn't used to the manual seat adjustments, no blue tooth etc, and with Roush Axle backs (which are awesome) I couldn't shift, and still enjoy a phone conversation once in a while.
I traded it for a Taurus Limited that has every option you could ever want....I mean, nav, heated cooled seats, rear window shade, blis, rear camera, you name it. Heck it even dims and turns on my high beams for me via some camera system.
All I've thought about while driving this couch on wheels is how much I miss the 5.0.
Now I'm searching and searching for a decent 2011+ GT with Sync and at least power seats, manual and that's not easy living in the extreme NE part of New England.
If you got one, don't trade it for comfort! My wife's gonna kill me trading my car again.

You should have got the sho. It's the best of both worlds.

A loaded GT Premium would give you many of the creature comforts and wouldn't feel like a couch on wheels.

Comfort? I just came back from a 6000 k road trip to Vegas and Socal in my Premium GT and on the way back, I drove over 30 hours. I even slept in the car a few times roadside, to recover myself. It was great in every way and the satnav, heated seats, cruise, DZ climate control, all got a good workout and made the trip enjoyable. I am nearly 50 so, every thing feels a bit like punishment now so, to have had such a good adventure with those conditions is great.

I feel practicality is diminished a bit over my last car (a 4 door hatch Mazdaspeed 3) but not comfort at all....and this car is WAY faster, even over the heavily bolted MS3.

Lol. I traded a loaded 2013 SHO for my 14 GT/CS. It was nice and comfy, but zero feel to it. It was running 12.9's with Unleashed tune. I prefer v8 powered rear drive platform. The SHO was 90% front wheel drive btw. I have a new 14 Edge Limited as my daily sofa cruiser. Dump that taurus Man! Lol

Plus, I got to cruise the Vegas strip and the PCH in my own ultimate road trip car, even visited Shelby American where they were working on cars just like mine....

I'm going to help restore your enthusiasm...here's a couple pics

Holy crap! The holy grail cobra! A little sad she just sits there. Funny how we build cars to drive and they turn in to museum pieces and garage ornaments.

The name Taurus alone should be enough to switch sho or not. Every Taurus I pull up next to with the, "I'm doing the responsible thing", guy driving it you get that look of I should have got the Mustang. You can either chase your dreams or live them....you decide!

CS always said these cars were meant to be driven and all the cars at SA showed lots of signs they had been driven, hard, including CSX2000. They weren't like a lot of the cars at Harrah's that were purely "garage ornaments", as you say.

Here's some more from SA....really worth the trip, if you find yourself in Vegas...especially in your cool Mustang. Out front sat a 2015, a New Edge and my car, all in a line...I thought that was pretty neat.

Not to **** on the SHO, but I killed a lot of cars from 0 up to 80 mph. I never ran it again after upping the boost on a 3bar map and cat deletes. Few guys where running consistent 12.5's @ 110-112mph with my exact mods. Not a slouch for 4000 plus pound 4 door. Car stickered for close to 50k btw.

I think this one was actually Carrol's personal Super Snake. The Cosby one was sold, wrecked and rebuilt. It was driven into the Pacific Ocean by its first owner, fatally for him.

That's a lot of power in a 2500 pound car. When I lived in Boynton Beach, FL I had Backdraft Racing around the corner from my house. They build specialty 427 cobra cars that basically come ready to go less your engine and tranny. Got to drive one (carefully) with a 600 hp big block ford crate in it up the highway. Crazy quick and radical. Almost traded my 03 Cobra in on one back in 05. Cool cars.

I think Cosby returned the original one he had after a couple days b/c it was so scary. It was then sold to another dude who wrecked it like I described. It's the basis of his gig, "200 mph" which is definitely worth looking up on Youtube.

All this done in an era of point type distrubtors, carbs and single camshafts...those are just Mccollough/Paxton style ball drive blowers too, which wouldn't do much over 5 pounds of boost. I had one back in the day, on my '88 5.0 and that made that car scary with about 1/3 of 900 hp.

I learned a lot watching the evolution of the cobra. Great super competitive car with the 289. When they went to the 427 it created quite a few problems and lost ground. Aerodynamics forced the coupe design with another 289. More power is not the answer for a great road car.

Love the twin screws on the cobra but that had to be one of those,"Hey Watch This!" moments. There are a few cars in history that are known for trying to kill the driver at any given chance and this was one of them. The recent cobra roadster that caught my eye was a Factory Five with the coyote in it!

Ehh, its kind of a bad compromise for a car enthusiast in my opinion. Yeah its got good power, but its front wheel drive. And its a Taurus lol. Its in that Pontiac grand prix and buick class. Not the most boring cars ever, but hardly a performance deal imo

Damn, they should rename that car the submarine. If a guy paid sticker he would be way underwater. A solid 20k in depreciation in 3000 miles ouch!

You think that's bad? I was looking into CL65 and S65 AMG Mercedes benz's a while back. Found a 41,000 mile 2005 S65 with the 600/730 biturbo v12's from the factory. $186,000 list and could have bought the car for $33,000. Those are tankers on depreciation because no one wants the repairs bills once their out of warranty. Badass cars with a SpeedDriven or Renntech flash though. LOL

**All the more reason I went back to a Mustang to create a fast car for cheap.

What?? They don't make Taurus', Pontiac or Grand Prix's anymore and I didn't realize Buick's had a class.

If my Taurus limited was rear wheel drive, manual transmission with the Coyote 5.0, it would be the ultimate car for me. But I don't think that will ever happen. Damn that would be a sweet drive! Comfortable as heck, take speed bumps at 50 and blast through the gears with rear wheel drive and Roush axle backs.
No matter how sporty I make it look now, it's black on black with SHO wheels, it STILL drives like crap because of the FWD. Torque steer sucks.

If you could swing the 40 plus grand the new 15 Chevy SS sedan with the LS3 and manual would be right up your alley.

Yeah I agree on the front drive not being ideal for performance car. My caliber srt4 was a handful with 360/370 whp and 3100 pounds. Zero traction sometimes up to 75 mph in cooler air.

We've all experienced that ole proverb, "Hindsight is 20/20 in the course of life............but the only way is forward........so if that's what you want bite the bullet and get one!
I've had 4 Mustangs and one 5.0l 86 Capri , but the one I really wish I had kept was the 68-1/2 CobraJet..............although the 63-1/2 427R motor Ligthweight Galaxie runs a close 2nd. Both were drag cars and not licensed..........but they were real cars!
Don't get me wrong, I love my 14 GT and it's a vast improvement over my 97 Cobra..........wish I had that one back also.

If I had bought a house with a proper garage I would probably be building a Factory Five Cobra with a coyote right now. Nice kits.
Making payments on a "factory" coyote Mustang is probably more practical lol. I am still on there mailing list though...

^^this. I rode a CBR600F3 for awhile too - still miss the rush of a sportbike, but my life insurance is much less likely to be invoked now lol.

To the OP - good luck finding your dream. Regrets of doing are much easier to live with than the regrets of not doing.

Well hopefully this Monday I will be back in a Mustang...2014 GT 12k miles, manual Trans. Base model except has sync and power driver seat. The first thing it will get, Roush axle backs.
I'm so nervous the credit union won't do my terms. I have the income but divorce a few years ago kinda spanked my credit score.

No matter how sporty I make it look now, it's black on black with SHO wheels, it STILL drives like crap because of the FWD. Torque steer sucks.
CTS-V? Have you looked into one of those ever? It has just as good of an engine as the coyote 5.0 if not, better. And it is a pretty plush ride. Theres also the new buick regals that are v8 and rwd if I am not mistaken
