6 speed trans fluid change

I'm about to change my stock 6speed trans fluid for royal purple synchromax, for those who have done it, any tips or tricks? From what I have researched so far, there is a drain bolt and a fill bolt, drain the fluid, then fill until fluid comes out of the fill port?

thanks
Rob

the drain and fill plugs are on the passenger side inline with each other, obviously the drain plug is the bottom one, they are 8mm hex (allen key) and are very tight, wise to not drain the fluid until youre certain you can get the fill plug loose. the trans takes 2.7qts which is just below the fill hole.

any issue with filling? I have heard you can get a piece of clear hose and attach to the bottle , or can you fit the bottle up there without it?

I used a clear hose attached to the bottle, still a pain. There also is a mt82 transmission additive that I used

well, filling is pain in the ***, I used a hand pump, I've seen people feed a hose from inside the car (I would never do this) through the shifter opening and gravity feed that way, but you can not fit the bottle up there

I do most of my own work. But for the tranny fluid change I let my local Mustang guy do the job.
And I used Redline since I always used it in my race cars. Great company. And the tranny was smoother and quieter. Ford's fluid was awful.

I found a 3-4' piece of fuel line fit into funnel and into fill hole (filled from motor area) it filled slow due to narrow id of hose but worked good for me.

Hints: exhaust is hot be carefull and 2.7 qts 1 qt = 32 oz (.3 qt = 10 oz)

being paranoid I also suggest saving the OEM fluid in a clean container in case you ever need transmission work.

To anyone who has done this Transmission fluid change themselves, when you get to 2.7 QT, does that bring the fluid just to the bottom of the fill hole? The reason I ask is, almost every manual trans is designed to be full when the fluid comes to the bottom of the fill hole, when the vehicle is sitting flat.

well I tried today, and as soon as I got under the car I knew it wasn't going to happen, there Is almost no clearance between the drain/fill bolts and the trans tunnel. What tool is needed to get it done without lowering the trans? I have a 8mm socket and it wasn't even close.
