Interesting new Solo Performance exhaust

I know, "not another exhaust thread" - but this is different...kinda.
Has anyone here had any experience with Solo Performance? While perusing sound clips on youtube, I came across this set-up and it sounds really nice (at least on video comparisons).
They have a pretty unique system of "tunable" J-pipes to eliminate or alleviate drone combined with a mid-muffler design - which seems to be an encased x-pipe.
Looks like these guys have been around, but are relatively new to the Mustang world, so was hoping for any feedback.

Here's a few links if you wanna check them out:

There's a couple more vids out there too - and they all sound really good.
There's a few threads on other forums if you do a quick Google search too.
Pricing isn't too bad either; about $900 for catback setup and looks like about $400+ for axle-backs.
I'm wanting to do a quad setup with GT500 rear valence on mine and it looks like they may be doing that in the future. I might be saving my pennies for that. My only concern is the overall volume - I love the tone.

Before my 14' GT I had a G8 with a solo-performance catback with headers. It sounded incredible! I only have great things to say about Solo and their products. Their customer service is great as well!

Its an interesting sound ... not what you get from most 5.0 exhausts.

That's one of the things that caught my attention. Sound clips are sound clips and nothing beats in-person auditions, but listening on a higher-end home theater system gives a pretty decent impression if the vids are good quality. That being said, this exhaust to me gave a good deep rumble and good bark without the rasp - not into raspiness. Looks like a nice way to tune out drone as well. They're on my short-list for new exhaust, just would like some more first-hand opinions. Hopefully they come out with a quad tip version...

Was your setup a similar style with a "mid-muffler" and the J-pipes? If so, how would you describe the volume? I know it's not apples-to-apples, but my only real concern is this type setup being too loud - at least for my situation. (DD with neighbors)
The Borla S is about as obnoxious as I wanna be, for reference if that helps.
Thanks for your input!

Not sure what you're trying to say there, Rap. If you're referring to their popularity, then that's a good sign I suppose. Otherwise, I'm not too concerned about their relative size on a Pontiac lol

Any input then on their volume vs some of the more popular Mustang exhaust systems?

No, the LS motors are always going to sound better than the 5.0.

Awesome! Did you get the whole cat-back system or just the axle backs they offer?
Either way, please give us some follow-ups if you would.

Just got the axle backs. I've had GT500, Pype Bomb, Roush and Mac's right now, so it will be interesting to see how they compare.

Well, you're just the person I wanna hear from then lol. I was leaning toward the cat back set up mainly because it would likely tame the volume a bit with the mid muffler design. I'm not looking for something overly loud, but if the axle backs fit the bill then even better.
Keep us posted

I installed the Solo Performance axle back exhaust yesterday. I have to say it was exactly what I was looking for. I started off with the GT500, they had a great sound but too quiet at idle for me. Next was the Pype Bombs, they were much louder at idle but had horrible drone. Next was the Roush, sounded great at idle but was too raspy for me. Then was the Mac's, they were a little more quiet at idle, they had a great sound but the lopey idle sounded too muffled. So I decided to go with the Solo Performance axle backs and they are the best of everything, they have a deep throaty sound, at WOT they are loud and aggressive, they lopey idle sounds incredible and there is 0 DRONE! I'm quite impressed with the fit, finish and quality. One thing I liked was the hangers, on all the other ones you would have to put the muffler in from the front of the car to the back, its a pain to try and put them in and fight with the over the axle pipe. But the Solo's the hanger is turned around and you can put it in from the back to the front of the car. These things fit perfectly for what I wanted. Definitely recommend for anyone that wants an aggressive throaty sound with no drone!

Thanks so much for the update. It sounds like you have the same opinions as I do for the other exhausts, so I'm really excited to hear your positive impressions on these. I might just have to pull the trigger, but I really want a quad setup. Supposedly Solo is working on that, but I haven't gotten anything definite yet.
Thanks again, and update if you have any issues.

Great to hear they have an axle back set up

If anyone is looking for more info on the Solo performance exhaust
Checkout NYMUSTANGS.com check screen name REPTILLA
Tom has had a full solo performance setup on his car for a couple of years now
I believe he has the first prototype.
I have cruised with him down to Watkins glen raceway .
His car sounds absolutely amazing especially when he gets on it .

Hard to explain the sound of Reptilla car
a modded terminator took off sounded great then Reptilla got on it probably a good 500 feet in front of me.
it sounded like his exhaust not took over my stereo system. It was LOUD but really nice sounding.

Pretty sure the J-pipes act as a helmholtz resonator. You can weld them on to any exhaust and eliminate the drone, you just have to find someone to do it and there is some math involved. In case anyone cares

I can only imagine walking into a muffler shop and asking for a Helmholtz resonator...

Yea I'm sure at most shops you'd have to show up with the pipes ready to go and just ask for them to weld it for you.

How do they sound compared to the GT500s? Obviously louder but is the sound itself similar? Also, have you played with the adjustments on the j-pipes at all?

The Solo's are way louder than the GT500. As far as the sound, they are unique, they have such a deep throaty aggressive sound to them. From inside the car they are just as quiet as the GT500 but on the outside they are louder than the Roush or Pype Bombs. Right now I have the j-pipes slid all the way in, going to try sliding them out this weekend and see what it does. I have lopey idle on my car and they sound amazing, hopefully going to get some videos soon.

Just curious, about the rest of your exhaust; are you running cats, or an x/h pipe, resonators?

OK, thanks. I'm sold on the sound of these things, I'm just a lil concerned over the volume if they are louder than the Pypes. Not too sure if I (or my neighbors) could live with it. Maybe the cat back with their mid-muffler would be a better choice? Gonna have to look into it.
