MGW Race Spec at the track

It's no secret that MGW has arguably the best shifter on the market for our mustangs with the Race Spec. I have really loved the feel, performance, and the low noise level this shifter provides on a daily basis. This shifters newly designed mounting components were designed to alleviate deflection under high torque cornering and acceleration experienced on the race track. Question is does the shifter system deliver on the track like it does on the street.

My personal experience at the track today with the shifter was excellent. I spent the whole day putting the shifter through the gears and never missed a shift. Effortless downshifts, upshifts and all around thrashing. After mid day it was like I forgot all about shift issues with the mt-82. The shifter is superb, it takes away what was a glaring weakness at the track and makes it a strength. It makes the car much more fun to drive with worrying about missing shifts a thing of the past. I can't say enough about the change this shifter makes with the Mustang MGW nailed it!

I'm debating between the m82 and the race spec. Is the race spec that much better? Is it worth the 200$ difference?

Not sure what your comparing to. The mt-82 is the transmission in our cars. I made a typo listing as m82.

Depends on your use of the car. The Race spec is spendy. I have heard people having good luck changing the stock shift support arm bushing sold by mgw along with other type shifters to help. Really by the time you address all the weak points of the stock shifter components and the shifter itself you might as well spend the money. The standard MGW shifter for the mt-82 is only about 80 dollars less at around 385. The Race Spec operates flawlessly street or hard track use and that is worth every penny for me.

Sorry. I was meaning the mgw shifter and the new race spec mgw. I ordered the original mgw shifter for the 385. Unless I miss understood the lady that called me. The price dropped to around 300 for the original mgw, and the price of the race spec is 470ish. I miss read your original post. I thought you were comparing the 2. I've been debating between the 2 all week lol

I agree with Scott. Although, if you switch out the shift bracket bushing with the original MGW you will likely be very happy from what I have read. I have no experience with that combo but, George of MGW said the standard is perfect for 80% of the folks. Really depends on application.

So are you saying that the price has dropped to $300 for the standard MGW? If so I'm calling them right now and ordering.

Also what is the real difference in the standard and the race spec?

Also A A Ron, is your last name Balakay? lol

Hell yea, let us know on that price man. Getting that price below the Barton would basically kill any reason to even look at the Barton over the MGW, period.

MGW Race Spec at the track

welp, I installed my race spec tonight, I had a lift at my exposal, I just can't imagine doing this install on your back, I ended up removing my shorty x pipe to make things easier which added time to the install but made it easier. removing the top front bolt on the transmission was really easy, the pain in the *** for me was the bolt that attaches the linkage to the transmission, the rest was pretty easy. as far as driving impression, absolutely no added noise, the shifter is a rock solid piece from my short drive home, very crisp, direct shifts
