just tried 2015 GT

Nice car...not like any Mustang ever. It's truly a very good car, shifter, steering , dynamics of tthe chassis, all way better than the old car and....there's the rub...I liked it, I really did but, I love the brutal aggression of my 2012. It's a classic case of how making something better in virtually every way sanitizes or saps the personality right out of the thing.

I'm certainly no luddite technophobe rambling on with bull**** good old days stories but, there is really something indefinably hilarious about the S197...looks luge I'll be sticking around a while longer.

You took the words right outta my mouth.
I wasn't sold on the new body style when they came out, so I took advantage and bought the '14 while still available and for a nice price. But after seeing them in person (been in, haven't driven one), I REALLY like the car. No one can deny it is an "improved" vehicle. I just can't get past the feeling that the car has lost the rawness - the "brutality" as you say, that the Mustang should possess in my opinion. It's like it's become a sports car and lost the muscle car. Not necessarily a bad thing, but a shift in identity none the less.
It's ironic that my father is awaiting delivery of his 2015 GT because he feels it is now the closest "reincarnation" of the '69 Mach 1 he had when new. All in the eyes of the beholder I guess.

I agree it is more of a sports car now, I prefer muscle cars like the Dodge challengers and the older mustangs but that's just me. The new mustang is awesome machine. ...

They have drifted away from the drag racer straight line car to more of a corner carving European machine which is nice. Im pretty sure though that the new s550 will still perform on the drag strip

I work for a dealer and know a few inside things from Ford and Chevy. If you like the car now just wait a year or two. I can't disclose much more but ohhh boy. ****'s getting real! (expensive)

I test drove a new 2015 Mustang GT, a 2015 Camaro 1le and an srt challenger. I decided to purchase a left over new 2014 Mustang GT. I agree with the OP that the new 2015 GT is a great car and probably a nicer car than the '14 in all aspects. Although it may be a nicer car, I don't think it translates to a more enjoyable car. Although I may be speak for myself, the '14 is more raw and mischievous than the 2015 and that appeals to me. I believe the 2015 will definitely appeal to a broader audience and bring new owners to Ford.

The 1le was very nice and it would have been my choice. However, with the money I saved for buying the '14 GT, my wife allowed me to keep my zx14r and my Miata. Compromise gentlemen, compromise. LOL

I have not driven one myself yet. But Your description sounds exactly like what I was expecting .
I just cannot get past the non mustang look of the headlights.
I have always liked the 2005 up look of the mustangs and bought my leftover 13 last year.I still am hoping I made the right choice.Time will tell when all of the new 15's hit the streets in my area once the snow clears.
To me it just seems the mustang look has gone euro too far for me anyhow.
Still the 15 is a great looking car. but IMO the 05-14's still look much better.

What Ford should've done was update the rear end and interior but left the body style alone. The 15 in my opinion doesn't feel or look like a Mustang. I understand Ford's design was to appeal more to the European market but they might have lost some diehard fans with the 15.

I just want them to give the mustang the F-150 treatment and drop the S550 to about 3000-3200 lbs. This one change would be HUGE step in the right direction if they did NOTHING else.
If they couple that with a TT direct injection V6 or that flat crank 5.2L V8, they are going to have one sick car.

Rumor has it the mustang is going to be an ecoboost V6 in the very near future.
No more V8's.

That rumor was false. Ford even came out and said it was false and they don't have plans on discontinuing the V8 in the Mustang.

And from the responses in this thread, they have succeeded. Ford admitted they wanted to make the Mustang a more "world car", and to do this, they had to change its past image of being a brute, straight line type of car.

I announced (and sold off my 2011 to prepare) that I was going to buy a 2011 to 2013 Boss, but I plan now to hold off one more year to see what Ford offers in the way of their "specialty Mustang models". Maybe the GT350, maybe the ???....

Don't worry. Gt will continue to be a v8 for the foreseeable future. V6 turbos are being talked about but only for special Mustangs. Possibly Euro stangs in 2-4 years.

The S550 doesn't exactly feel European in the gently sprung, overdamped suspension kind if way. It is still an American car but, it's smooth, quiet and a lot more sophisticated. If I was in the market, without a car, I'd consider it but as a change up from an already hilarious car, I need more.

I think the chances of a TT V6 are remote. It is very clear Ford is committed to the 4 banger Eco in this platform. They are marginalizing the V6 as base cars and rental fleets. You could not just fit the truck 2.7 or 3.5 V6 eco into this platform, that would require an extensive redesign and brings engine weight up to V8 levels.

I also think a 3000 pound S550 isn't happening either, that's a drop of some 800 pounds on a Premium car, where they have already made significant efforts in individual areas to reduce weight, even if auw is collectively up for the S550. Just my opinion but, I think even all aluminum body, with the reinforcing required, would still spec in maybe a couple hundred lighter, not much more than that and the cost/benefit probably isn't there at this price point.

Get tired of hearing that our mustangs are straight line cars. They are just as much a corner carver as the m3 in stock track pack form. They aren't an auto cross champ for sure but put a well setup pony on the track and they are a great handling machine.

I totally agree. I don't think Mustangs (at least recent iterations) get enough credit for their handling capabilities.
It's an unfair stereotype that's attributed to American cars in general, but the Mustang gets more than its share. In part because of the way the majority of people build/use their cars and also due to the archaic architecture.

Mine still handles great with a super charger.
You just have to be smart with the Loud Pedal.
