Car scared me today. Limp mode.

So I was playing today with my pony. Hard 2nd gear pull and didn't hit my shift in time. Hit the rev limiter hard and she shut down on her own and flashed a nicely lit wrench on my dash. Noticed the car had no power and started checking my gauges. AFR was in 20s and I pulled over and shut her off. Started back up and all seemed OK.

Of course I was like "you idiot! You just had to tune it!" Started texting some trusted advisors lol and hit google. Looks like for autos if you hit the limiter the car goes to limp mode.

Was a lovely butt puckering.

Were you using that button on the shifter in sport mode?

Put it in D and drive. Sport mode is useless. Unless you are doing it for corner carving purposes. If you are going straight ten there is no point.

I use the sport mode to either make videos of a pull in a certain gear or data logging which requires me to pull out in 3rd gear and run to redline lol. Or like you said, tearing up some curves.

One more reason I prefer a manual in a car, for my off road or towing vehicles I prefer a auto, but with a supercharger or turbo the auto is best for straight line racing.

Can you get a separate tune for the transmission? Or a tune to remove said problem for limp mode response to hard driving?

I generally agree with you, Soccerluvr4. However, I occasionally use individual gears - mainly 2nd and 3rd - for some types of driving, e.g. hills or consistent curves, just as I would with a manual. I don;t think this is unusual.

In my past 2013 V6 3.7 auto I had a Bama Tune for 93 Hybrid. I used the buttons to shift just as I had before the tune. I hit 6.2K Rpm at WOT and pressed pressed, pressed and no shift at all. Hit hard limiter instead of soft and the car shut down totally. If a car had been behind me I would have gotten rear ended. Bamma Tech support said my transmission type was "slow to fill." I detected BS and went to an MPT tune and didnt have a problem. If I got close to the limiter, it flashed the tach red on and off.

When I traded up to my 2013 GT I got a manual, I am not into drag racing other then a strip pull now and then; but like to shift my car.
