'13 and 14s I never see hood scoops

I had a 2011 and liked the way the prepainted hood scoop looked that I put on from AM.
I've been wondering if the 13 and 14 style looks as good or not but I hardly ever see any with them installed.
Is it just better looking without it?

I'm with him, the nostalgia of the shaker is iconic and I love it but I don't think it matches up as good on the 13-14 hoods because it's so small otherwise I'd get one. I think the Roush one is the only option I would even really consider but if i can find a way to put a shaker system through the Roush hood scoop on my car then that will be what I do.lolClick image for larger version

It's really not as small as you think. In person it really fits well. I was after the same look on the 70 boss 302. My secondary choice was a cervini hood if I cut the hole wrong!

I think you see fewer scoops b/c the 13-14's already have the heat extractor vents so adding a hood scoop in the middle is a little too busy for most people.

You see a lot more on older mustangs (pre-2011) that need to at least look fast... the 2011+'s are fast so why try so hard at looking fast!!

Nice to see the post on the CDC Shaker, been wanting one even on my past V6. I have that about ready to buy in the next 45 days and then get the nerve to cut my hood

I am actually thinking I would be more comfortable cutting it myself with a friend to help measurements etc then paying a body shop to do it and not knowing how well they protected the engine bay. Looks like use large harbor freight moving blankets over the whole compartment and then toss them out when done.

What again did you use to cut, what model saws all or a different method like a jigs saw?

It is an easy install and would never let someone install it that had not done one before. I bought the scoop for 530.00 summit matched blue ovals price. Drilled one hole then an 18tpi jig saw blade about half speed.

You don't loose the engine cover or factory strut tower brace. If you have plans for the boss or cj manifold it won't work . Won't work with a tvs blower either. It will work with a paxon/vortech style blower.

I recently added my upr catch can so I pulled the top cover while I work on remote can location. Here is pics of both. The second pic is just sitting on not bolted yet so it looks un even. I like the mechanical look better without cover I'm thinking...

Thanks, you took the under-hood felt insulation off first and cut it separately correct? Looks like I need to order this before end of month

Yes first you pull the felt off then you cut the hole in the hood. Next you reinstall the felt and then you market with a silver sharpie and then pull the felt off again and cut along the line with the razor knife .

I personally love a hood scoop on the 10-12s.

Our hoods for the 13-14s are just too flat in my opinion to have any kind of hood scoop put on to it. The Shaker one looks nice above, though. I just don't see any of the current offerings that are non-functional to be appealing. I hate the Roush ones. If I ever picked up a 13-14 roush from the dealer, I'd take off the hood and throw it away for a stock GT one lol.

Really? I have the scoop on m 2011 and wish I could get rid of it. There's a couple different aftermarket hoods I like but not enough to spend $1000+.

Don't you know why it's called a "shaker"? That's why... Lol
Besides, it would be like something from the department of redundancy department.

See I get that a scoop on a scoop is redundant but ya know like the 04 Mach 1 hood is different from the regular GT with the slants building up to the shaker, that's kind of how I would want it to be on my 13 if I could find a hood that would work with it. This Is the closest I've found and i would cut into the top front of the scoop for the shaker placement

But the shaker system got its name from the old cobra jet shaker intakes that actually shook on top of the motor. The new age cdc shakers are mainly a tribute to those old school ones and there is very minimal if any shaking or at least that how it was on the 04 Mach 1s and my buddies 2012

The hood of the 14 is a thing of beauty, flat smooth and with
functional heat extractor vents. Dont mess with perfection.

That's why I like this one - functional ram air and it keeps the heat extractors. Plus I think it looks fantastic.

I like that hood too. One of my choices when I did the cdc. Just could not come close to buying one because of the price with the ram air upgrade and bodywork and paint shipping and possible damage. Also rubs me wrong you have to do bodywork on a new hood.

I know, $799 with the ram air is steep, but I think I'm gonna hafta bite the bullet on this one eventually. I've got a body man I trust too, if need be.

Im sure you will happy. My car always gets thumbs up and you can't stop anywhere without someone wanting to chat. I was toying with making up some old school boss 302 graphics to tie in my scoop in the same gray as my wheels. Loosing the 5.0 badge and replace with 302.

That would look awesome with the Boss style stripes in gray. Something you don't see very often - for good reason lol. Most people don't have the cajones to attack their sheet metal with a jigsaw. Props to you, the retro look with a modern mix goes well. (definitely looks better without the intake cover too)
