Playing with vinyl

I ordered some 3d carbon fiber vinyl black and red
So I went down to auto zone to buy a roll of vinyl to practice with. Not the best work lol. I went and bought a head gun today and it is a whole lot easier you just need to be patient.

I was thinking of doing all the dash trim along with the radio bezel black. And the chrome rings and steering controls in the red cf vinyl. Any one have any ideas?

I think the looks pretty good. One of the first things I noticed when I drove my mustang is the reflection of the chrome bezels and trim while driving. Never thought of wrapping them.

It's a little tricky you need to work with it. I'm not too patient with this stuff. Once I get the vinyl I ordered I'll post pics. I just don't know how to combine the black and red cf.

Take your time, use a Popsicle stick and a plastic card along with a blow dryer and you can do the entire dash. I did the base dash we took this car before installing the Boss dash. I sold it but it looked really good. If you decide to do the entire dash, there is a trick you need to do to the glove box panel for both safety and looks. The crease in the center is both function and design. It splits when the air bag deploys. If you just try to lay the CF vinyl in there with out making cuts, it will always bubble up and potentially could be an issue if the airbag deploys. Simply lay the vinyl and use the popsicle stick to press it in the two grooved areas. Right after getting in there good, take an xacto razor and cut each of the bottom corners lightly just through the vinyl. This will keep it laid flat in there plus it will separate if the air bag deploys. You cant see all of it in the pic, but I also cut out the vinyl where "MUSTANG" is in that area. Gives it a much more professional look.

Deerslayer how did you get vinyl on the passenger airbag to fill the two slot so nicely?

^^ I put how in my first post. You lay it, use a popsicle stick to get it into the first grove and then make two cuts with a straight edge razor in both sides of the bottom of the groove. Continue to lay it into the next groove and repeat the process. Use a hair dryer to keep the vinyl warm and laying good. Once you make those relief cuts it will stay put and is safer for the operation of the air bag. I removed the vinyl where the mustang letters are. Start by laying the vinyl over the piece and work from the bottom to the top working any air out. Once you get to the first groove, do use the blade to make the relief cuts, next work it into the top groove and make the next pair of cuts.

Thanks I get the vinyl some time this week. I'll take pics of how it turns out. I'm thinking of doing the dash panels red carbon fiber and stereo piece black carbon fiber. And the chrome rings in red carbon fiber as well.

I got the vinyl I ordered yesterday in the mail. I wrapped some trim pieces and they came out ****ty. The vinyl I ordered was cheap ebay vinyl (technology racing).today I ordered a roll of 3m 1080 cf vinyl. I will be redoing the pieces next week along with the rest of the trim. What do you guys think of the red cf rings and trim? does it go good together?

Thank, I'm taking the red off since I won't be able to wrap the chrome around the vents in the middle. It looks a little difficult. And around the shifter as well.

The chrome on the middle vents can be removed also from what I remember u just push it out from the other side and use a flat head on the front to help get it off id have to look at it to remember for sure. It also looks like it can be around the shifter too but when I was trying to I couldn't get it off around the shifter so I just taped it off when I sprayed it.

Around the shifter and the middle vent it looks like the chrome rings are melted on.

The trim ring on the console IS melted into place. I had to remove it to complete the install of the carbon fiber console. You can use a soldering iron to melt each tack and then it will pop off. Quite a bit of work tho
