Barton shifter and reverse.

I have been lusting over a barton for my 14gt and found a good deal in the shifter through a friend. I installed it yesterday and I'm completely happy with it except the little extra force it takes to go in to reverse. The car goes into reverse and the forward gears are all fine but it feels as if I have to push down hard to go into reverse and there is no positive feeling that I'm in reverse till I ease out on the clutchto see if it will roll back wards. I know that the install of the rubber boot is critical as so it will go into reverse. Is it normal to feel like it does and I'll get use to it or do I need to take it apart for the third time to move the rubber boot around again?

I just installed the Barton shifter, bracket, and white line bushing. Right after I had the install complete I went to drive it and realize that I had the boot twisted when I tighten down the knob which caused the shifter to not want to move properly in it's gate. I simply loosen the ball shifter, adjusted the boot. I held the top of the boot in place and retightened the shifter ball. Not sure that's your problem or not but that's the simplest and first thing that I would think of to look at.

Thanks for the reply... I took it back apart again and removed the rubber boot completely... It fixed all my problems with reverse and I'm debating wether or not to even put it back. It's a little more noisy but let's you hear the nice whine of the trans and hardly any road noise. I still would like to know what I'm doing wrong with the boot.

are you saying you may put the rubber boot back in? I don't recommend that man, that boot keeps out nastiness and water
