I just changed the gt to a 5.0 and I started by just grinding the gt down but the rest of the base is beveled also so I had to cut out the entire middle of the base so the new emblem would sit in flush

I also ordered a 5.0 emblem from emblem pros about 4 days ago. I haven't received it yet, but I also purchased a used gt faux gas cap from eBay for 50 bucks. This way I can grind it down and paint the chrome trim ring and not worry about the one on my car if I don't like it. They do pop off, the one I ordered was still on the black trunk panel and I wrapped a very thin bladed flat head screw driver in painters tape and in about 45 seconds of light prying around the edges I was able to stick another pry tool (also wrapped in tape so as not to scratch anything) in the area between the 2 parts and it popped off. I have seen a lot of people popping that entire trunk panel off to do this mod, and I don't think you need to. That panel has a ton of clips and everyone seems to break half of them or more. The panel I got literally has one clip left. Haha. But that was why I got a deal on it. Anyway I will post up a pic of mine once I get it done as well.

Whew! Thank you. I got super excited when I saw your cap and contacted Emblem Pros about doing a custom one for me. But after reading previous threads, I was changing my mind. Please do keep us posted of your experience. I'll wait to order mine when I read joy in your post!

You don't need to take the deck lid off the trunk to do this...but with that said this was my first attempt at a appearance mod and I almost pulled the deck lid off when I was pulling the faux gas cap off so I hit it with a hair dryer and fishing line to loosen the tape holding it on and it popped right off.that is a good idea to get a used one off eBay I wish I had thought of that.oh and I just realized that I'm in Alberta Canada and it was -40 outside when I did this so anybody in a warmer climate might have a easier time getting the tape to let go

So after you took it off, was it flat underneath? In other words instead of ordering an expensive RTR decklid could I not just remove the cap and clean off the tape giving the lid a clean look without the cap?

No you can't just leave the gas cap off the deck lid has guide tabs and mine had a hole on the outer edge just under the chrome piece it's about the size of a quarter sorry I didn't take a picture...

My bad. I wasn't thinking when I asked the question. I look at mine and the hump where the cap rests is molded with the deck lid as one piece. So, I still want to have a new cap made. There is nothing like personalizing your ride. Im proud of mine. I'll post before and after pix soon.

I've seen one apart at dealer but don't know how he did it, the trunk was open so, I'm assuming he was working inside deck lid to take it off

It looks like this under the stock cap

You just pry off the stock cap because it is just stuck on with tape and plastic pins. I used a plastic painters pry bar and a tape rapped small pry bar to pop mine off. There is a hump that if you decide to do the Flat panel you would need to cut off the hump. BUT if your just replacing the cap -It just sticks on. You may have to get new push pins from the FORD DEALER though.

That would be for 2010-2012. 2013-2014 requires a little more more work as you have to cut the faux gas cap because the gt or tribars are part of the ring. The center black pc pops out.Click image for larger version

ID:	174609 notice the hole on the top left side. That's a great place to start prying it out gently

Got my emblem today. I ordered white since I thought it would look good with my white car, and a red "point". From a distance...looks good. Up close, I'm a little bummed, you can see the cut marks. Looks like a guy sat down at a work bench and made it with a dremel. I'm not sure I am going to use it. I think it's going to bother me. What do you guys think?

That was cut with a laser. Fast. That would take some serious sanding to get those marks out.

I emailed emblem pros and they responded pretty quickly. The guy said it did look "bad" but that things can look worse in a picture and he wants to look at it in person. So for me to send it back. Kind of pi$t me off the way he said it like I made some crap up. I am sending it back. He replied to my response and said some of that is going to happen but mine does look exaggerated. Sucks because I really wanted to get it on the car. Had my used faux cap all ready to go. Now I have to send it back and wait some more? Lame. I was planning on maybe getting the acrylic "powered by ford" parts they make for the coil covers but after this experience I don't believe I will be buying anything else from them.

Yea, cutting plastic like that will always have a rougher finish than if it was machined. The acrylic has the tendency to chip and chatter like that.

They claim these are cut on a CNC. I don't know why they wouldn't sand them a little or change the way they cut them if these are the results they get. I would be better off making my own with a flat pc of ABS and an actual fender emblem. In fact I may just do that.

How do the cuts look along the edges? Is it smooth or is it jenky like mine was? Sorry I jacked your thread by the way. I truly didn't mean to do that.
