Cobra Jet Manifold Install.

Hey guys. I'm interested in doing the CJ install on my 14 GT. I know you need the "Ford Racing Boss 302 Install Kit" But I remember seeing a thread a few months ago stating you could substitute that whole kit for a few parts since you don't use the inlet tube if you add the CAI and it isn't necessary to replace the fuel lines. Any help with this? As far as the actual install goes it seems pretty straightforward so I'm not too worried about that. Thanks in advance.

No need for the Boss install kit. All you need is 3/8 fuel line and 2 clamps.

Do you have any idea what you're getting into? Who's doing the tuning? Do you plan on shifting around 7900-8000 rpm to take full benefit of that intake? What are your current mods? Auto? Manual?

Awesome. Thank you.

Yes I do know what I'm getting into. I'm going to start with a basic bama/generic tune then when summer comes and I'll be using it I planned on taking it to get dyno'd and actually dialed in. Currently running Borla Catbacks. I'm just starting engine mods. Manual.

The manuals don't like high rpm shifts and you've already had issues with your transmission. I don't think you do know what you're getting into.

Lol so you're going to have Bama tune the Cobra Jet Intake setup?

Good luck with that.

There is alot of work that needs to be done b4 you can hit high rpm shifts correctly, with the shifter, motor and tune.

In my mind you are increasing flow In the middle of the system instead of working from one end to the other. But who knows if that makes sense

Yes this I know. I planned on a cam swap next as well as possible dropping the entire tranny and putting in the Tremec Magnum.

Why are you wanting to do a cam swap? What are your plans with the car? Current mods? Gears? Etc

Because I understand I'm taking some power from the mid/low and putting it in the high end. The cam swap evens the car back out somewhat. I plan to keep the car entirely N/A which is why I'm taking this route. Car came with the GT Track Pack so it already has a 3.73 rear. Borla cats running with Borla long tube being added shortly. I planned on the whole kit (manifold, CAI, and TB)

Also let me clarify the tunes. I don't run this car at all in the winter, so I planned on buying a base BAMA tuner and using that. Then when I started running it getting a Lund tune because to my knowledge that will work on the Bama tuner. Correct me if I'm wrong?

It's not a "BAMA" tuner, just an SCT device that bama puts their logo on if you buy from them. Any email tunes can be loaded onto it.

Exactly. I thought any tune could be put on it. Thank you for clarifying.

Yes but you will have far better results with a 1 7/8 primary and a 3" collector

The plan sounds pretty good overall just remember the weak link for you is the transmission and clutch. Also you will need to address the oil pump gears as yours won't last for long at those rpm's. It's the rpm's that can be detrimental not the power.

And if Lund is going to be doing the tuning just go right to him from the start. They sell the SCT tuners with their tunes preloaded on them and will do free revisions. Beefcake Racing has the best prices and Terry and Thomas who both work for Beefcake Racing are very knowledgeable guys that will help you with any questions you might have.

Okay. I didn't know Lund sold tuners. I didn't see them in my section. But thanks for the heads up. I'll also look into Beefcake.

Honestly man...it's not worth the power gains. The oil gears cost a great deal of money to install, and you'll need to add a mgw race spec to the mix. After you add everything up, you'll be in supercharger territory. I understand you want to stay n/a but what the hell for?

You'll also need an oval style throttle body and custom intake tube/tract as the OEM factory one will not work.

Cams won't increase bottom end or mid range for you. The best all around cams for the coyote are the stock cams. I personally wouldn't get a CJ intake manifold unless I had a Boss 302 to begin with. In order to get the most out of the CJ intake, you're going to have to rev up to 8k rpm. Full bolt ons such as quality headers, a cold air, and deleting the cats will really wake your car up. If that's not enough, then do a 50 shot.
