My 1/8 mile track day

Well I took the mustang to the track and I've never ran this car or an 1/8 mile track before. I ran a 8.62, my 60ft was 2.25 mph 87.90. I wasn't really happy with my time until I started seeing other cars running. Every Camaro was in the high 8s and low 9's. 2015 mustangs high 8s low 9's. I ran a 1/8 mile to 1/4 mile calculation on the internet and it says I'm only going to run a 13. 5 that doesn't seem right either

The 60ft needs to come down some. Was it spinning off the line or did you hook okay?

What was the DA, elevation, and temp at the track you ran at? Wow, and you have the famous M. Rousch tune.

Just for comparison my 14 auto with VMP tune on stock Nero's ran back to back 8.1's @ 88 mph. My 60' were 2.00's. That was 350 range DA and 1500' elevation. fyi

Elevation is 2000, it was raining on and off so I ran when there was a brake in the weather. Temp was like 68. I was faster then both my buddies I went with. They both have 5.0s as well. One of them has long tubes, 373 gears, high flow cats, 275 tires in rear. He was pissed that I beat him every time.

I put some new good year F1 supercar tires in the rear right before I left for the track but it didn't help traction. 255-40-19.

You need a real drag radial. Were you spinning off the line? Did you leave off idle?

D/A=Density/Altitude.

It can make a big difference in your car.

I launched from idle. I didn't just floor it either, I eased in to it as it got closer and closer to shift in to 2nd. When it went to 2nd it still spun a little and kicked the *** end out a hair. I'm sure it put on a good show for the croud. on 2 of my runs my auto did the annoying shift to 3rd then back to 2nd thing they do when 2nd spins to hard. I ran a 8.8 and 9.1 when it did that.

You will definitely need a better tire if you're looking for a better 60ft.

Seems like your launch needs some work or help, looking at your 60 foot. also, the MPH, seems down some, especially for that cool air, with the spinning your experiencing, the MPH should theoretically be a little higher. On the F1's with a minor heatup, and no waterbox, and launching off idle, you should see 1.9's. How did you approach the lights? Did you bypass waterbox? did you shut down advantrac?

Trac control was ON. There was no way around the water box so my tires got wet. I heated up my tires just a little but didn't sit there and smoke them. I was at Irwindale CA track. Light rain on and off. Like I said I'm not happy with the time but considering I beat my friend who has more mods than me it was good to see.

That explains your 60 foot then. Shut advancetrac completely off, and ask track personnel if you can drive around water, most tracks expect this on street tires.

Well guess your not living a quarter mIle at a time yet so I would suggest better tires and more practice on launch also better or rather dryer track conditions.

Well the water box was as wide as the entrance leading up to the tree so there is no driving around it. When I launch with Trac OFF it spins real bad then when it shifts to 2nd the *** end gets sideways. Better tires will fix that so next time I go I should have my 15x10 sve wheels

http://www.dragtimes.com/da-density-...calculator.php Use this to see what ur times would be in neutral DA.

Irwindale usually had decent DA. I agree with grabber tho better tires would really help out. I need to get some better tires asap.

Did u try running in sport mode? I usually run it in sport mode because completely off will spin like crazy & on will kill my times.

No I didn't do sport. It's crazy that the track has less traction then the street. Any car I've ran seemed like the track was crap.

Yea Irwindale isn't known for the best track prep..I'm sure it's better than most streets tho! Haha. Better tires would definitely help tho & maybe trying sport mode or different launching techniques. Did u lower the PSI on the tires at all?

I didnt mess with my pressure, just hours before I went to the track I had 2 new tires put on because I got a flat tire and didnt want to patch a warn tire then take it to the track. Like I said above I went with 255-40-19s Goodyear F1 supercars. I think it was a super bad track day just because of all the high 8s and 9s I seen. CTS-V caddy was low 8s, Camero 1LE low9s, STR8 300 mid 9s on radials, and every 2015 Mustang was high 8s to low 9S. Got a few on video. On the way home my friend wannted to run on the freeway and he use to pull me bad on a roll but now we were neck and neck then o creeped on him and the only different thing ive done was Mike Roush tune so I must say the tune helped from my last tune. Whats crazy is he has more mods then me, he is lighter with carbon fiber trunk and hood, i had a passanger too. I still took him so it was still a good night.

I usually lower mine between 25-27psi & it seems to help. Yea no matter what times u get track time is always fun! U should try hitting up Fontana speedway. They have 1/4 street legals like once a month!
