Man these shops charge a lot to put on racing strips.

Seems like if you don't buy their strips they charge you more. Then some act like they can only put on their strips. I already paid for the strips form Big Worm so someone's putting them on. One shop said $500, another said $600. Got one more to check but they are closed on the weekends so I'll check them out Monday.

If you are patient you might consider doing it yourself because that is a lot of money

Yeah I found out this one place starts at 350 with materials. So I'm going to check them out Monday to see how much it is with my own materials.

If it's cheaper you could buy theirs and sell the other ones. Just another option.

Apparently it is though. I called my body shop, the only one for 100 miles around and they were asked by the Chevy dealer to do a couple Camaros. They no longer even attempt it after f'ing up a couple SS.
If a body shop staff (even a crappy one) won't do them, I sure as heck am not going to screw up my own car with zero experience.

When they are put on correctly, it's a tedious job. Measuring, unbolting stuff to get wrapped under, etc. You can tell the difference between a good job and "less expensive one."

I was thinking that as well. It better be a damn great job for that price.

You should really consider doing it yourself if you have the patience. Went to YouTube and you can see it is not hard. Just a little soap and water and time. Did it myself on my '98.

If you have a good "Window Tint Shop" in your area.

Find a reputable window tint shop to install your stripes.
They probably won't charge near as much and do a better job.

Stripes

I started off new with Ford Racing vinyl professionally done by dealer, lasted two years and finally pulled it off and had it painted and never looked back.
Begin with how long do you anticipate keeping the ride?

Short term vinyl is OK and costs less plus when it gets mess up it can be pulled off no harm except for the $.
Long term advantages of painted made it my choice: beautiful, done the right way, custom to your preferences-color,width, placement, style, easier to maintain (clean and wax) and more durable, sets you apart from everyone else including the 500's, not to mention resale value. Just my 2 c's.

At least two years. Maybe longer because when I deploy the car will be in my garage for 9+ months. No elements touching it at all.

Another question concerning choice of mods. Keep in mind that external mods are enjoyed every time the ride is seen even when not moving. Performance mods are internal, unseen, and enjoyed by you when driving wild or on the track. Purpose is a good guide to get where you really want to be. I for one, want to see and enjoy the results of my hard earned every day. But I realize there is a good reason why there is chocolate and vanilla.

Yes, I bought about paint but had already dropped quite a wad rebuilding mine. Someday though.

WOW a big surprise for me too. I am a member of the Mustang Club of Maryland and post there but I have never really left S197. I just don't think I have much to offer. P.S. I am really glad that it did not go away for good.
