2013 mustang 5.0 breaks drive shaft

so my buddy and i had just finnished doing a photoshoot with my procharged 3.7 and his hellion single turbo 5.0 when he came up with the bright idea to do a burnout with his new nitto drag radials.. hahah and of course since we were there taking pictures we got that **** on video,

there is a lesson to be learned here, make sure you are not in reverse when doing a burn out or bad things will happen.

How can you confuse 1st gear with reverse?

I'm hoping it is just the drive shaft and no other damage

Ya put the sticky tires on. Put it in reverse. Do a burn out,
Now ---- What could possibly go wrong??????????

I 'm hoping only the drive shaft was destroyed and nothing else.
Let us know
Ronnie

^^ I'll bet he has more than just DS damage. The MT82 may have just had a grenade dropped in it too.

Hopefully, you just need a new driveshaft.

Well, sounds like its a good time to get an aluminum 1-piece driveshaft.

Actually, a good time would have been BEFORE this happened.

The stock 2 piece DS sucks. Too heavy, and prone to failure once you start adding power.

Ford needs to put 1-piece aluminum DS's on all the 5.0's.
They did on the Boss 302, and they put 1-piece carbon fiber ones on the GT500's, seems like with their volume they could do it cheaply.

I wonder if the drive shaft actually broke first or if the reverse load just pulled the slip coupling / yoke out the back of the transmission? Probably need a new DS either way, once it hit the tarmac.

That's not bad at all

All it needs is a vise and hammer to straighten the driveshaft out as good as new.

Ronnie

Any other damage???

Too heavy I'll give you but, you need to add A LOT of power before you start hitting failure on the stock DS and at that point WTeff did you expect?

Buddy here is a complete tool CHEST...not just a bag

It sure looks like reverse on the video

I'm sure he is not the only person ever to be in reverse by accident.
I once seen a lady in a Mini back into a van at a stoplight because she went from neutral to reverse when the light went green.

I don't think your really supposed to do a burnout when your in reverse but I'll bet this guy was not the very first to do this. He was just un-lucky to be filmed.

Good point. Knowing my luck, it would happen when I was being filmed. Could be worse, I'm sure you've seen the videos of people at the track slam 3rd and hit 1st.
