Picked up my 15x10s want the best tire.

Hey guys I ordered my SVE 15x10s and I've asked about the tire size in the past and 1 of the recommendations was a 275/60/15 and that's a 28 inch tire. But a 28 inch tire will make my gearing taller so wouldn't I want 275/50/15? I'm an Auto so I'm looking for a radial. I plan on drive this set up 35 miles to the track.

I run a 295/55-15. M/T calls it 27.8" tall but it actually measures 27.5" tall.

Would I want to stay closer to 27 or 28 inch? Is 1/2 inch really a big difference with my gear ratio

No a half inch won't affect things either way. If you ran a 27" tire or a 28" tire your times would probably be indentical. But I wouldn't run a 275/50-15. Either a 275/60-15 or a 295/55-15 will work best for you.

Just a note, while the auto's rear end gearing might seem tame, the overall gearing is steeper than the manuals, when you calculate the transmission gearing in the 6r80.

Hey grabber how do the 295's tuck? No rubbing? I have coilovers so I can always raise the rear but don't really want to. I want to toss my track set on and roll. I'm trying to get to the track on the 22nd.

Yes I'm running the 295's. No rubbing anywhere. Here's a shot from the rear.

Any chance you have a pic looking down the side? From the back it looks like they stick out the sides past the wheel well. They look nice and wide that's for sure lol

Ok so I ordered the 295-55-15's from AM. So I hope to see what I run in the 1/4 on the 22nd when I hit the track. Now that I have the track setup, what air pressure do you run? Grabber I know your running a converter but in your experience what is he best way to launch with the Auto?(stock converter) off idle or try to get the RPM as high as I can before it pushes threw the brakes?

With the stock converter, you will get a better flash, launching between idle and 1000 rpm, and with a 15x10 you will need to relocate the sway bar. I'm assuming you already did this?

AM isn't the only place to buy parts, especially tires.

With the stock converter I found it best to leave off idle but you'll need to experiment. You can try flashing it around 1000 rpm as already stated.

Tire pressure is something else you'll need to play around with. You could use 18 psi as a starting point.

I been holding my opinion on this for a long time between this forum and s197, but it appears, I see so many people wanting huge tires on their cars, or what I term huge, when its above a 275 tire, and yet its been proven over and over again at the track, that you can go fast and or faster with excellent 60 footers on a 10 inch tire. Bigger tires= more rolling resistance, so why such a demand for a bigger footprint? Im looking at my 275 60 15 drag radials and they look huge enough already.

Deepimpact i think the 275 will be just fine also. Cars are running 6 seconds on that tire. Ncfive0 every other place wants 50 dollars more per tire plus shipping so AM is the way to go. Grabber don't worry about that picture, I just Googled it and seen that it looks GOOD with both 275 & 295. I'm going to CA Speedway and I'm sure it will be packed so testing pressure and launches will be limited because I'm sure I will get 3 runs in all night.

I agree with this 100%. In my case I bought brand new Weld RT-S 15x10 wheels off someone that just happened to have the 295's already mounted on them. My next set will probably be the 275's but I doubt I will see any positives or negatives over my current 295's.

I bought my rears off of someone and the fronts from JPC with the tires mounted and balanced. Love those wheels.

I have the rears, I bought used with slicks locally, and sold the slicks, and my girl got me a set of drag radials for Christmas, now I'm trying to to see if I can find the front's used, but as it gets closer to spring, I might be forced to buy the fronts new.

Can someone clarify for me whether my 2013 GT would be ok on 15x10 or would I need relocation for Sway? If thats case I might just do 10x8.5. My only issue is now that I am lowered I really cant go over 27 total. thats what my current stock are

15x10 relocation needed, 15x8 none needed.

OK, so I am going to go with 15x8 most likely then. Anyone know a good site for calculations? I need to see what tires to buy but I need the end diameter about 27 and not much over.

Most of our cars stock diameters come in at 27.7 inches, a 28 inch is perfect.

A 15x8 wheel with a common 28" tire will bulge like crazy and stick out past the fender more than a 15x10 wheel.

Why do you only want a 27" tire?

I'm sure you know this already. Just putting it out there for others. Also by no means am i a drag racer (I drive around corners, so tire choice is a bit different) so this is just a viewpoint about how people in general look at tires.

Not all "275" tires are equal in actual width. There are known brands to run narrow like Nitto and Sumitomo, and other brands like MT or Dunlop or BFG usually run wider than most think. So what a 295 Nitto is, can be the same thing or even narrower than a 275 Mickey or Dunlop (in general, it varies between each actual tire). Most people just see the number and think thats all that matters, also people for some reason love trying to stuff the biggest possible tire on the smallest possible wheel, which is just as bad as the whole stretching tires for stance in my opinion.

Well I am lowered and I believe the 255/35/20's on my car now are a 27 inch diameter. There isnt much room at all between fender and wheels. I am afraid the 28 will rub the fenders.

Well the 275's are ordered now. AM only had 4 more and 0 more 295's. I called mickey Thompson and they are also out of 295's. But as I looked deeper in to what size to get, it seems 275's will be perfect. Either way I'm going to hook better then my street set (Goodyear f1 supercars).

Yes, that's what I usually see, many people going ballistic on tire with the smallest rim. While I'm not generally a canyon carver, I do enjoy pushing the limits on occasion through the twisties, but of course at the limitations of my present rubber and suspension, not beyond. I find in summer weather my F1's are more than adequate for me on the stock Brembo wheels. I am now however shopping for a 9.5 inch lighter wheel than stock, and am considering 275 40 19 as the tires for those wheels. If I was going to do cornering, I would have gone manual, but my enjoyment comes 1/4 mile at a time,LOL.
