Just received MGW race spec, one word....BEAST

This thing looks like a bad MFer. Haven't installed it yet obviously but as I was opening the box I realized something didn't look quite right. There wasn't a bar that connected the shifter to the tranny like in all the other pictures I had seen online. So I just got back on their site and there are new pics up and they upgraded just since I had ordered it.

This thing looks like a beast!!!

That is a beast and will probably be my summer mod. I think I'd actually drive down there and have them put it in for me.

Yeah this thing doesn't even attach to the body of the car for harmonics sake anymore. It just bolts solid to the tranny and thats it. I'm gonna give the install a go tomorrow afternoon. I'm on the large side and so are my hands so I'm prolly gonna go the way of dropping some exhaust and the driveshaft to make it easier on me. I'll let you guys know how it goes, I could prolly take more pics of bloody knuckles and cuts than I would be able to of the actual piece when its all said and done lol.

That's weird. My race spec attached to the body. The shift bracket is still bolted to the body as far as I remember.

Yeah thats what I'm saying. When I placed my order, the design was that it still bolted to the body in the back. Apparently they got a lot of feedback from people and they changed the design. I was surprised as hell when I opened my box.

Just got done installing it.

The worst part about it was getting the little bushing out of the end of the shift rod. And that was only topped by the f*cking rubber shifter boot. Mine just looks like there is no way of making it go around the ring like it is supposed to. And just when I thought I was getting it, it pops back off. Its like my boot's lip is shaped wrong to grab that ring or something. So I put it on the best I could, installed all the dynamat and heat padding and called it good.

Its basically the same video anyway. The interior is different. All you have to do is lift the console piece out and unplug a wire. In the 15s you actually have a couple little bolts to take out I think. And the shifter is slightly different so it comes apart to come out whereas, you can just that the top half off in the car and the rest just falls out the bottom.

In all seriousness, I was in my garage working on this for a sold 3 hours. Now that being said, getting the car up and jackstands, trying to be gentle with the little bushing insert, and the rubber boot took the most time. And when I say the most time I literally mean, for me, the removal and installation process prolly only took 20-25 minutes. It is so much more simple than the video even shows. The video makes it look like you can't seee ***** and can't reach it. Its really not that bad. And I have big a$$ hands and that slowed me down slightly and it still went that fast.

But my rubber boot just wasn't having any part of it and it took more time that the rest of the whole deal combined. Only because I was actually trying to do it right and was failing miserably lol.

We have a auto craft shop on post when you can rent a bay for about $4 an hour. I'll probably do it there. Did you have to lower the transmission on the 14GT?

Yeah, it doesn't really come down that far so it's not that bad. And if you get it up in the air where you can get leverage on it you could prolly just man handle it when it comes time.

I sent them an e-mail over the weekend asking about them installing it and they said they will install them for free with an appointment. For me it's worth the drive down to Georgia to make sure that it is installed correctly, plus I'll get some real highway time on the drive down.

George takes less than an hour to install it. Plus you get to look at their Boss 302S

I'll be honest with you, there isn't any part of this install that anyone can't do. Jacks and jack stands and a few wrenches and you're set. The rubber boot is the only part to dread really.

Also I was told the price was $499 shipped. My receipt ended up showing $470 for the shifter and $482 shipped so thats a sweet deal. But thats before I knew of the upgrade so that may be the price with the old bracket to the car system. Not sure.

That being said, not noticing it at first, but last night I'm sitting at a red light and I'm staring at the shifter and notice that it seems way closer to the driver side of the hole. Like to the point that when I'm in reverse its basically right up against the trim basically, the leather boot is I mean. Anyone else that has one installed notice this?

Other than that guys, its worked flawlessly so far. Only beat on it a few times and slammed 3rd gear like never before lol. Oddly enough the car seems to get the wiggles when I'm banging gears, feels like the front end is getting super light.

Either way, I still get some gear nibble which of course I never expected the shifter to take away.

yea, It can be done on jack stands. I was getting it tested on my car is why I had MGW install it. plus they are only an hour from me. If you are in reverse, it almost sits on the plastic trim yes. Mine has been like that the whole time.

I just installed mine on Sunday. I can't even begin to describe how much better it is. I don't have to think about how I'm shifting through the gate anymore from 2->3->4. There is zero high rpm lock out. This shifter is worth every single penny. I'd say it's a must if you have a 6spd.

How much shorter is the distance between shifts? Is there much difference in the distance between gears?

They say 30%. I can definitely feel the difference but it's not ridiculous. To me it feels just right, not the stock throw but also not a micro movement. A huge plus is I can shift without reaching over, or wierdly contorting my wrist around the drink holders when I've got a drink or two in them.
