Oh it's going to be a great time slapping those in the pump....lol. The OEM gears are powdered metal and very weak and don't hold up well when winding out the RPM's and are recommended with boost so I took the plunge. My front bumper was actually quite dinged up, and I wanted to fill the license plate holes for a cleaner look so she's in the shop getting purdy as we speak.

I'll be installing AM's flip out plate bracket once I get it all back together.

Looks good. This will be something I do at some point. My front bumper not only has the holes, but it is also riddled with chips and marks from road debris. But it's not a show car, and I imagine once I start getting it on the track it will be getting worse so for now oh well I guess.

Yeah, I couldn't stand the license plate holes, and once I decided I was going FI, I decided to pull the trigger and get the plate kit so I can offset it away from the IC. The rear of the car is pretty smooth and clean so I figured what the hell, do the same for the front. I'll most likely clear bra it for some added protection. I'm not really a show guy either, I'd rather be at the drag strip all day, but that plate is such an eye sore lol.

Did a bit of removal today for the install of both the vortech kit and the oil pump gears...

Thermostat and water pump are off.

Gotta attack the coils, plugs, and valve covers, alternator next time. Lotta work for these OPG's lol.

Almost to the oil pump lol....but in the meantime ordered new valve cover gaskets, timing chain gaskets, water pump gaskets, oil pump gaskets, and finally a new ARP crankshaft bolt for when I put everything back together.

Unfortunately I have been non-stop busy as of late and haven't had much time to work on the damn thing, so progress is slow right now. The oil pump gear install has slowed things down quite a bit as well with how involved they are. Slowly but surely lol. Hopefully by June she should be up and running and hopefully with a good tune from Lund.

Yeah, I have the walls lined with AC condensers, radiators, water pumps, etc lol. Timing chains are coming out next. Plus the weather has been god awful with tons of rain. I can't wait to actually install the supercharger itself lol.

I've had mine apart for a few weeks myself. Have a bunch of projects going on at once. It's fun but sometimes I get sad when I can't take it for a spin. I can only imagine the anticipation of knowing you have a supercharged maiden voyage around the corner

Yep same here. I have had the bumper completely off now for 3 months or so, and I just recently sent my inner OEM grille to my paint guy to sand down and paint so I haven't rushed him whatsoever lol. I saw your progress on the oil cooler, that thing looks nifty and is probably a sweet upgrade. And you're damn right, I miss the heck out of driving the car, installing the boost guage and setting up the Nguage is as close as I've gotten to the cockpit in MONTHS. I cannot wait to get it all back together and start datalogging.

We finally made our way to the heart of it all lol. After taking off the timing chains, and one PITA oil pick up tube bolt, we've reached the oil pump. It was about midnight when we got it off so we didn't crack it open just yet for the new gears. Progress, progress, progress!

Does anybody have any suggestions on brand and weight of oil I should switch to before I crank this thing over?

I will. From pictures online, there really isn't much of a visual difference between a powdered metal gear and a billet gear to the naked eye. I'll get as close as I can to the surfaces and see if I can spot any blatant differences.

So my pal ended up going over my house last night and changed out the gears without taking any quality pictures lol. But he said, and as you will see in the picture of the original gears, they're a bit pitted, and the surface isn't as smooth as the billet set. The oil pump is back on, and I will be back at it tonight reinstalling the front dressing further.

Original gears:

Looks like an improvement for sure. What's the failure typically from with these? High rpm under boost?

That's exactly it. I went back and forth debating on if I needed them or not because of how extensive the install is, but I decided on them for the "cheap insurance" factor. My buddy wants to kill me because of it, but I'm glad I went with them. I spoke to the owner of beefcake racing Terry, and he said he uses them on ALL of his cars, and no doubt thought it was a decent idea. I don't plan on revving past 6900-7000 not pinging it off the limiter every 5 seconds, but I'd be kicking myself if the gears failed and destroyed my motor.

Eric's 2014 Mustang GT build thread

Small update : I decided to go ahead and get some upgraded fluids for when everything goes back together. First was oil and I decided to go with Amsoil's 5w20 signature series with a K&N Oil filter. And while the radiator is out I decided to buy some Mishimoto Liquid Chill 50/50 mix. A little costly, but I'd rather have some better shear stable oil and better protection now that I'll have some forced induction. Right now, the oil pump with the new gears is back in, and it's time to reverse the process. I'm smack dab in the middle of cleaning and degreasing the timing chain cover, getting it ready to put the gaskets in and silicon on. It's all coming together and I can't wait to get this thing out of the garage lol.

Hopefully soon. I keep running into snafu's with things like coolant from AM getting destroyed in transit, and MMR messing up my credit card number trying to buy a harmonic balancer install bolt....just my luck. The OPG's really stalled the operation. Had to be very surgical and precise with that ish. Otherwise I'd be done with this business lol.

It's so hard to take pictures of the intercooler/radiator area. I ran into the same problem when I was trying to take pics of my oil cooler install. But it looks sweet.

Did you get your bumper back yet?

Did you get your bumper back yet?

I know! And I don't have the best visibility in the garage as well. Still haven't gotten my bumper back lol but obviously that's not really an issue....yet lol.
