Rewiring the power outlet on the dash

Hey guys I was wondering if there was a way to rewire the power outlet that's on the dash so that it'll work with the key. I have a radar detector and I hate how ford allows the power outlet to stay on at all times and then I have to always shut off and turn on the radar detector. I know I can leave it on and it'll go In to power saver mode but I just thought if it's simple maybe I can just re wire the outlet to work so that when you start the car the outlet has power and when you close the door it loses power. Has anyone experimented with this? Thanks
